How to measure an inductor

New to rolling inductors.

I want to find the value of a cheapo chinese copper/ferrite coil and experiment with upgrading it to something like Solen.

1. Use any multimeter which can measure Henries?

2. Do I need to remove it from the circuit like a resistor?

thanks in advance

Go with the cheap one to measure just 1 part.  DATS lets you measure an entire speaker.  A good thing for troubleshooting to validate changes and when trying to identify problems.

Hey.

You do need to remove it from the circuit.

The easiest/best way is to use Dayton Audio DATS. The cheapest way is to use Room EQ Wizard and roll your own cabling.

Make sure to pay attention to the DCR when replacing coils. Do not willy-nilly try to minimize that.
