High end in Tokyo?

I'm in Tokyo for the next week. Are there any good stores to visit with esoteric/high end gear that is reflective of trends I've been reading about in Japan for decades? Not interested in seeing the typical fare available in the US.

Personally, I wouldn't dream of visiting Tokyo without trying to look up Kenrick Audio and seeing if they might even let me audition something, anything they might have on hand, if they do that sort of thing...I'm not even sure if they have a showroom open to the public.

I just posted this because all the electronics when I lived in Japan are in multiples of 10x the price in usa...guess its fun to look but its really expensive and a waste of time unless you got a hundred grand or so...go to roppongi and have fun

Enjoy Tokyo!

If you look up the local audio forums there they will give you a list. If you have the means to travel to Malaysia while over there let me know. There is a cool "Tunable Room" there.

Just go to the Akhihabara area of Tokyo and enjoy. Probably the greatest collection of high end HiFi stores in the world. Of course, there are a lot of stores that are definitely not high end in this area.

What I like about Tokyo and the determination of Japanese audiophiles is nobody has any space to put up a big audio system so the only recourse is to turn the entire apartment or house into a giant super hi efficiency horn system.

Geoff, yeah, I heard that too, and saw the pictures.
For traditional Japanese the best visitor is the one that doesn't come. Certainly not without invitation.

Welcome to Tokyo. You should visit Dynamic Audio in Akihabara. That is 'the high-end store' in Japan. Each floor has a different floor master selecting equipment and higher you go, they have more expensive stuff.
