iconicaudio, that is not much of an upgrade. Hold on longer and go the the next level like a Lyra or Soundsmith and a bunch more. Study the construction of the very best cartridges, cantilevers, styli, etc. Follow down through the price range. You look for the most inexpensive cartridge that is made with the same materials or close to what the best cartridges are using. This has become a very competitive market and moving coil cartridges are over priced. There are now many top notch MC cartridges in the $3000 - $5000 price range and really excellent moving magnet cartridges from $500 to $2000 that many are convinced are superior to MC cartridges in that same price range. In this day and age you want to get to a cartridge with a boron, ruby or sapphire cantilever with one of the fine line styli. As an example of what can happen take the $2000 Clearaudio Charisma. It the exact same cantilever and stylus as the $17,000 Goldfinger. |
i have heard both, own the ML, and a Lyra. for the $ it’s a very attractive MC with no fatal flaws, save perhaps a bit of politeness. Renders a very fine 3D image and “ holds own without embarrassment “ in a fairly resolving system. https://systems.audiogon.com/systems/3803#&gid=1&pid=1 IF this is a lark, i would be inclined to put $ into the fruit jar and get a Delos or better. have fun, enjoy journey and the music… Jim |
