Grimm MU1 vs Antipodes K40

I have the Antipodes K40.  I've never listened to the Grimm.  The Antipodes can be upgraded to the K50 if I wanted to.  Or, I can keep the Antipodes with my Lumin X1, and add a Grimm MU1 to go with my Weiss DAC 502.  Any thoughts from people who've used both servers?  Thanks.

metaldetektor,

I'm not looking to change from Antipodes, but I was curious about what Antipodes model you compared the Grimm to.

More and more and more decisions... Looks like Antipodes just released the Oladra server/player.  I guess this is something I'll have to give some more thought to since I already like Antipodes a lot.

If you did want to do more homework, besides Hifi Advice's comparisons, Fair Audio (German magazine) also did a brief Antipodes/Grimm comparison. Pink Faun as well.

The bottom line is the Grimm is easy to home audition -- take an afternoon and do your own comparison.

Rather than read tea leaves on the internet, why not call the various Grimm dealers and ask for a home audition? That's how I heard it myself.

I've heard the Antipodes and bought the Grimm, but decide for yourself with your own ears.

As long as the MU1 is your Roon Core and your network is configured to allow Roon ARC to communicate with your MU1 Roon Core.

Does anyone know if the Grimm MU1 can act remotely through Roon Arc?

My point is you will probably receive different recommendations, but only your ears can decide. Unfortunately, sometimes it's impossible to get a home audition.

A good  point, sometimes the highly desirable audition opportunity simply is not available. Forum feedback can be very informative, but also sometimes unavoidably  all over the map. We have to accept the good with the bad.

I'm in a situation where I'm trying to decide if it's worth going from my Antipodes S40/ S60 combination to the Antipodes K41. I currently use the S40/S60 with a Antipodes K21. Two dealers said it isn't worth it, but Antipodes says it's a significant difference. My point is you will probably receive different recommendations, but only your ears can decide. Unfortunately, sometimes it's impossible to get a home audition.

Agree wholeheartedly with David’s suggestion. You may possibly get more feedback on these two highly regarded music servers on the What’s Best audio forum compared to this site.

@wtb   Bill:   Christiaan Punter // hifi-advice.com has teased out the differences between Antipodes and Grimm (and other servers) better than any other source I'm aware of. I'd look at his primary reviews as well as others...because he digs deep into the differences, even with reviews related to other components / cables, etc.
