Great video on Phil Collins the drummer

Started watching this video the other day.  I haven’t finished it but I’ve found it very interesting and entertaining.  I grew up with the poppish version of Genesis with Duke, Abacab and the self titled album and I’ve always enjoyed their music.  It wasn’t until recently that I listened to the rest of their earlier catalog with both Peter Gabriel and early Phil Collins vocals.  Imo and being nothing much of a drummer, I love his work as a drummer and agree he might be one of the most underrated ever.

If you want to travel back in time and experience Peter Gabriel led Genesis, Steve Hackett is still touring.

He had/has a unique voice as well. I think "Mama" was one of his best vocal performances.

Phil was famous as a great drummer long before he started singing lead in Genesis. I started following Genesis back in 1972 when Phil had joined the band for 'Nursery Cryme'. For the next several years during the 70's, he was far from under-rated - Phil Collins was generally considered the best drummer in progressive rock, a very drummer-intensive genre indeed (Bill Bruford was right up there, too, in fact on part of the 'Trick of the Tail' tour, Phil and Bill were both together). In addition to his brilliant work with Genesis, where he often did background singing to Peter's lead, he also had a jazz-fusion side project called Brand X, which is well worth checking out if you want to hear some of Phil's best. It's a shame that people who know him only from being a pop star don't know about his drumming career...

Great video — thanks for sharing.  I too grew up mostly with the later Genesis stuff, but especially as a drummer I’m now looking forward into delving deeper into their earlier music.
