Got bit by the Magnepan Bug

It is summertime, after all.

I recently picked up a pair of the 1.7 and they sound rather special in my acoustically treated 12x16 listening room.  So special, in fact, that I'm seriously considering selling most of my other speakers (and I've got quite a few).

I had the MG IIIAs about ten years ago but sold them when I temporarily got out of hifi stereo gear.  I liked them but don't recall how they sounded as that was eons ago in a different house.

I have so much gear I'm starting to tire of the volume and how it's taken over much of my house.  It's beginning to feel silly and getting down to just one rig is appealing to me at the moment.

On a personal note, it appears growing up poor can have a profound effect on one's buying decisions, which I need to break away from.

Really diggin' the Maggies.  And here I thought I was  "monitor" guy.

Would a 12x16 room allow for the 3.7, in your opinion?

I think it might, but am not too sure.  Probably not the optimal size of room, I'm guessing.

Thanks.
Audiodwebe, that is just what I am going to suggest. It is much better to have one great system than three mediocre ones. Sell of all the other stuff and save up for 3.7i's. This is the sweet spot in Magneplanar's line. If you like the 1.7's you will love the 3.7i's. A 12 X 16 room is not a problem as long as you set it up right. The speakers need to be at least two feet away from an acoustically dead wall and 2 feet away from the side walls. Acoustic tiles directly behind the speakers will do. The listening position should then be 10 feet back from the front wall which will position you perfectly in the room. The only deficiencies you will have will be bass below 50 Hz will be absent and do not expect to play louder than 100 dB.
which in my book is more than loud enough for safe listening.
With the right associated equipment and tuning these speakers can come remarkably close to the absolute sound. If my pocketbook was limited to $6000 these are what I would get. They are the only speaker at that price that I could get close to the sound I like. I would add two subwoofers, a room control preamp with bass management like the DEQX HP5 and 200 watt mono amps.
