Good Bye George Shearing

Saw the obit that the great George Shearing died. A friend of mine introduced me to his music about 10 years ago. I have a number of his albums both as a solo pianist, with his trio, and as instrumental backup with Mel Torme. What an artist. Good bye George may you rest in peace!

The live recordings of George Shearing and Ernestine Anderson are some of my favorites. Terri Gross from Fresh Air played a great interview with him from 1986. He always played so beautifully.

He will be sorely missed. A true gentleman, with a wicked sense of humour. I'm sure somewhere in the heavens he is entertaining the masses and having fun doing what he always did best.

NPR/Fresh Air replayed an interview with him yesterday and it had me a bit teary. Thanks for all, George.

My grandpa always mentioned him. A great jazz legend. People will always remember you.
