fm antenna for rural areas
does anyone know the best antenna for a rural area fm reception. presently using an old magnum dynalab that looks like a tv antenna on a 30 ft mast but reception for my favorite 88.5 station has deteriorated over the years. should i go for a higher mast? the antenna is directional and mounted on a directional rotating mast.

theo Get a good old TV antenna. UHF,VHF and FM all work with the same type of antenna. Only drawback is they are somewhat directional. You need to be careful with this. To prevent interference, many television antennas have a trap that filters out the FM band, which is around channel 6 on the TV band. Sometimes the trap is removable, but not always, so you need to check the antenna's specs. Having a directional antenna can be as much an advantage as a disadvantage. it really depends on your location. |
