Can't stand the genre myself, but Burial is highly regarded by those who are into it. |
Yhave you heard the Massive Attack and Tricky albums?
If not, checking those out is a must.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale: very edgy with some nice hop flavor
Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA: very big hop, somewhat edgy
Rocky Mountain IPA: even edge with good hop
. Dogfish Head 120 minute IPA: big hop, big edge, very trippy
For a minute, I thought you were talking about rap music
..I know, I know sorry to insult you! |

Also, check out the Ruby album "Salt Peter". |
I second Portishead, Tricky and Massive Attack. I would add Morcheba who had at least a couple of great Trip Hop LPs. Check out "Trigger Hippie" by Morcheba. |

I like a new band out of the UK called Burial. Hard to find in vinyl but well worth seeking out. Has a very nocturnal feel to it, like driving around the inner city at 2:00 am in the morning. One of the better 2008 "finds" in my collection.
As already posted, Massive Attack's "Blue Lines" set the template for this music and Portishead's "Dummy" followed in its path. Both our essential CDs to have in your collection.
Nitin Sawhney has produced some nice mid decade work that also stands out. I especially like "Prophesy." |
In addition to the above suggestions, I would also recommend Lamb, Hooverphonic, Olive, STS9, and my current favourite, The Cinematic Orchestra. Check out their recent album - Ma Fleur and also Every Day. |
Gotan Project. Trip hop with a tango vibe, or vice versa. Some interesting music at times. |
I second Kruder and Dorfmeister. You can also check out OM records out of SF. They have a lot of classic downtempo stuff going back many years, all of which is available on vinyl if that is your thing. You can also go to netmusique.com and check out their downtempo channel, you will get a lot of great artist recommendations from there. |
Also see Herbalizer Mr. Scruff Federico Aubele Purple Penguin Sneaker Pimps Esthero Dj Krush Baxter Moloko Up Bustle and Out Fila Brazilla Desmond Williams Waldeck zero 7 Lots more out there but there are a lot of great suggestions in this thread, |
Add Lemon Jelly to Emisers list |
Goldfrapp. Morcheeba. Kid Loco.
Another thumbs up for Lemon Jelly boys, their 'Lost Horizons' album is a must have in a cd collection. |
Trip-hop did increase influences over the past few decades and generated a LARGE volume of great artists.
Check out The Gentle People, The Dining Rooms apart from more popular Massive Attack, Tricky or Olives!
