I happened to hear the Vienna Beethovens with Krell amplification recently and was very impressed with the depth and control of the bass, the effortless dynamics and the overall excellent tonal balance of the speakers. They did a great disappearing act in a room crowded with other speakers, and were just fun to listen to music through. Very surprising speakers; I don't think you'll need a sub with them. The Dynaudios I've heard are also excellent, but (other than the Evidences) perhaps a little more to the cool or analytical side, compared to the Viennas. Which one you like will depend on your tastes, as well as the amplification.
Dynaudio vs. Vienna Acoustics
I would like to upgrade my Vienna Acoustics Mozart speakers, and would like to hear opinions about Dynaudio (Contour or Confidence series) vs. the larger Vienna Acoustics models (Beethoven, Mahler). My amp is Classe CA-300. This is for a 2-channel system. I would like to avoid sub if possible, but have heard that REL integrates well with high-end speakers.
