Dual 1249 Tonearm replacement
ok, so I have a design for a tonearm that I want to apply to my old Dual 1249 (I have a Dual 1219 that I have a custom plinth, Denon DL-103, used with a Linn LK1 preamp).
I want to experiment with at least a 10" arm, maybe a 12" one.
I can make a precise plinth that incorporates the correct mounting position, but would like to know how much of a pain is it, to take the stock arm off and have the motor still turn? I know I'll lose any automatic functionality.
Is it also a good idea to turn the table 90 degrees clockwise to aid in tonearm positioning? Looks like I'd have to if I used a 10" tonearm because of the cutouts on the existing 1249.
Hope this makes sense :)

No need to alter anything if using a outboard armpod! http://www.i-fidelity.net/uploads/pics/AAS_Gabriel_Ferrari_red_with_4_tone_arm_boards.jpg |
Ditch the 1249 and mod the 1219! I have a 1229 and replaced the original Dual arm with a Grace 747. I have also had a SME 3009 on the table but now use that on my Garraed 301. I removed all the automatic functions, and used a set of springs to tension the original on off switch. I also use a tone arm lift for end of record play. The 1219 can be made into a killer turntable. I have a EMT 927, a Garrard 301 and the 1229. The 1229 is my favorite and gets daily play. Email me n at normansizemore dot com if you need help.
