Does this sound like a good deal?

I found a guy selling a YAQUIN" MC-13S he wanted 600$ but I got him down to 400$ it's never been used just taken out of the box for photos. I have seen nothing but excellent reviews on these but non the less would like some more opinions. I don't even own a set of speakers I wasn't even intending on buying this but I thought the 400$ mark was a steal considering the reviews I have seen. So even after I get it it will be a paper weight till I can afford some speakers after I catch up from the 400$ I'm about to spend. I thought maybe some words of encouragement could be nice haha. Does anyone have any speaker recommendations?

Anyone have any recommendations for tube upgrades that won't break the bank for this amp?
Will look into that in the future - I do like the warm and romantic sound of tubes but also fast and powerful sound of SS, so what you say makes sense...

Great! Some audiophiles swear by tubes, although I for one also like the sound of Krell and McIntosh solid state amps.

I am happy for you on a good deal - enjoy your new find...
I got it everything works excellent just had broken tube protector but you cant even tell. I got a great deal things beautiful works excellent.
I don't think that you will find better sounding amp under $1000 than that one. I got mine for $300 with broken tubes and volume knob, after retubeing and other fixes the thing sounded spectacular. I bought elac uni fi's used on ebay for $300 and that was my first system, for me match maid in heaven. Many amps and speakers later I still have the same combo in my second system, it does some things better than anything else I tried so far.

Good luck with your quest.
I just didn't expect the guy to come down so low had he said any more I would have been compelled to decline. So I fully intended to purchase at that mark I wouldn't be able to say no was just very surprised he agreed.

On another not I would prefer bookshelf speakers temporarily because I don't have space but next year I will be buying a house then I'll be on the hunt for some floor speakers so I don't want to spend to much I have seen a few chap ones on offer up some klh for 30$ but I know nothing about speakers or amps or anything haha...
JBL A170 for $500/pr are contenders! Read HR's review in the November Stereophile!
What's your price point? Book shelf or floor stander?

There are so many to recommend...

  1. Martin Logan motion series 15
  2. Dali Zensor series (eBay has good prices on them)
  3. Vintage JBL L-100 or 4312 is another name for them on used market (might have to re-do the x-over due to capacitors drying out) but worth it. They have warmth to the sound that's unlike any modern offerings I heard...I am enjoying them these days...
  4. Accessories4less.com has many good speakers heavily discounted : Canton, Kef LS50 for half off, Boston Acoustics A26 (truly affordable gem of a speaker), Focal, etc.
You are wasting the other person’s time if you don’t buy this. He has lowered it to your asking price and now your not sure if you want it because you don’t have any speakers? You knew ahead of time that you didn’t have speakers.

But I see in your other thread that you say you are picking it up tomorrow?
