Denon DNP-800NE Reviews?

$100 more than the Node 2i and no support for MQA, but still curious if anyone has heard one?

I cannot answer  on comparing to Denon HEOS Link.

I bought my DNP-800ne almost a year ago along with a Yamaha A-S801 amp and a Yammie CDs-303 spinner for my home office setup. I wanted something that looked like a component rather than something half or 3/4 sized, and something that didn't break the bank, as this was relatively new to me.

I have thousands of hirez files on my home computer that are served up via OShare through my Asus XT8 Router set. I wanted to play these back, as well as fairly easy access to Internet radio stations. That being said- the unit does what I want it to do. I was initially put off by the fact I need to use my smartphone and Heos App to find "albums" quickly, but in reality it mostly works quicker as scrolling though hundreds of LP's using remote and Denon display would take forever to find some titles.

I believe this unit is now out of production, being replaced by an Amp/Streamer combo.

My confidence in the unit quality has been shaken already, as the unit has gone back for warranty TWICE. Unit was purchased November 2021, and was sent off to United Radio in July this year. It just lost its ability to find anything on USB, Server, or Internet and a Network Module was replaced. Last month- the unit failed again the exact same way. United claims it needed a new Firmware flash, which I'm curious about.

For the $600 retail I paid for it- it is a learning experience. I truly enjoy the convenience of having my music available upstairs, and the wide open frontier of Internet Radio is a good thing. This is much akin to when I was a youngster scanning the radio dial for either the furthest away station I could listen to or expanding my horizons for what was played on other stations. I truly enjoy listening to WFMT a classical Station in Chicago(I live in Mass), but am slowly reaching out to other locales and music as well.

Sure- I could have just bought a newer cheaper AV Receiver, but I wanted more than that. After some time with this- maybe I'll look into the Cambridge Audio offerings for streamers. They do get astounding reviews.

Considering only the equipment funcionality, how does it compares to Denon Heos Link? Is it worth for an ambient room, to go cheaper on Heos Link?

Just thought I would add some info to this thread. I wanted to dip my toes into network streaming. I was able to purchase a refurb Denon DNP-800NE with 3 year extended warranty for $399. It is matched with my Anthem 225 integrated amp and B&W 603's. I am really enjoying the music that I am getting. I would recommend this player to anyone looking to expand their system. I am not sure I will need to upgrade this at any point, but am always looking to improve my system. For a first time purchaser, I am ecstatic with this choice.
Hello possibly this thread can help me.  New to the whole wireless music thing.  I have an ipod touch 6th gen full of my favorite playlists.  I am hoping to connect it to this Denon DNP-800NE via USB... and leave it there.   From local stereo amp or kitchen stereo or amazon show 8 I am wanting to hear my playlists.   Dont care if it is with Heos or Airplay... I just want to be able to use a remote or ask alexa to play my favorite tunes.   Has anybody done this with this product or another product ?
@ bryhifi, I went with the Node 2i and paired it with a MHDT (16 bit input) Paradisea + since the majority of the strange music I listened to on Tidal wasn’t utilizing MQA.
With this said, I’m still curious about this Denon alternative. Love to see a head-to-head between these two streamers. At the time of purchase of the Node, there just wasn’t too much information on the Denon...
The Roon core that you will be using will recognize the Denon as an Roon endpoint via AIRPLAY, so you will be using the Roon App to send and control all your files to the Denon ( again via AirPlay).
Hi @musicmann1
i am also looking getting an  800NE and wanted to use it with roon

im just trying to get my head around how you use the two with airplay..

so roon app acting as a bridge? I.e. The app streams media from your nas or network running roon server and then streams it to 800NE

or does the 800ne stream directly from the roon server?

if its the 1st one i assume you phone needs to stay on the network whilst you're streamjng?

thanks!
Just received a 800 NE, and Airplay via Roon does work. Haven’t had any prior experience with AirPlay, but so far ( after 25 hours of initial burn in) it sounds..........quite good......
The HEOS control app leaves much to be desired, but with Roon via AirPlay, the poor app isn’t a issue. With more play time the 800 NE should get even better.......for 600.00 retail, it represents a nice alternative to the BLUESOUND NODE 2i, which I also have. The BLUESOUND app, however is much better.
How would one get Roon to work on this device ( since it’s not a Roon End Point? ( Airplay, perhaps.....
Have owned the Denon DNP-800NE for 2 months now, and no bugs.
HEOS app works flawless on I-Phone, laptops etc.
HEOS doesn't work with Windows 8, wish it did.
But I don't really need it, because I  have Spotify App on my PC.
The sound is CD quality at minimum, but usually better.
I chose the Denon, because it works with so many cloud streaming services, unlike the UK brands. I have had good experiences with Denon products since the 80's. I upgraded my Wifi router too. That is where most music streaming fans go wrong. Now, I never have drops unless there is a cable/power outage in the area. There are some good tips on Audio Advisor, and Auralic websites.
Ended up buying the matching PMA-800NE amp just recently, and so far I am very pleased. The streamer remote controls the Amp, so I never even bothered to unwrap the PMA-800NE remote. It's nice to only need one remote.
And with HEOS on my I-Phone, I hardly even need a remote anyway.
Matched with Wharfedale Dentons (anniversary series) and nearly every recording and genre sounds good.

Will it do Quobuz?
Denon and Marantz are now joined at the hip and Marantz streamers, IMO, are buggy as hell.  Don’t know how that would effect this product, but I would be cautious
@toro3
did you decide on this piece?
I'm perusing a network player and this one is on my radar.

Grunefeld - the HEOS is a pretty nice convenience. I’ve been using it through a Marantz pre for the past year. I was thinking of utilizing this player for a two-channel system in the office. Appreciate the comment and time, sir!
I own an DNP800NE since it came out two months ago and it replaced the older model I had for a few months, the DNP730AE. Paired with the PME2500NE amplifier and Monitor Audio Silver 8 speakers I’m very pleased with the sound, control and build quality of the player. Together with the HEOS-App on my I-phone it works very well for controlling the network player and amplifier. I think at this pricepoint you realy can’t go wrong with this player.
