Budget Tuner Recommendations

Hi all,

I'm looking for recommendations on budget tuners. I've got a simple setup (Jolida CD player & integrated Amp with Totem Arro speakers) and want to add an inexpensive tuner to the mix to listen to NPR, etc.

Used is fine as well as new.

Thanks in advance,

Tim

I'm not sure how much you want to spend, but if you have a high speed internet connection, I would definitely go with a Logitech Squeezebox to fill you tuner needs. The Squeezbox gives you access to thousands of stations and its sounds great. The Squeezebox is the best purchase I've made in a long time. As an added convenience you can run it wirelessly if needed. I've recently seem them on sale for $269 new.
The best inexpensive tuner you can buy is a Carver TX11a.
They sound great and you could get one (or even the TX11) for in the neighborhood of $75-150. Someone turned me on to these when I was thinking of an old McIntosh telling me to save the difference in price. I've been happy witht the Carver ever since!
Tim,

This might be what you're looking for. It would be a perfect match for the rest of your system. ;-)

The Little Tivoli PAL radio actually makes a very good stereo tuner, even though it is a mono radio. If you use an RCA stereo mini connector to standard L&R RCA cable, the otput is stereo and it is very good. It is also extremely compact. It is also a rechargable portable radio, so it will always be ready for use during a power outage if you leave it plugged in while in use in your home audio system.

It's a great little radio to use at picnics or at the beach, and it makes a good home stereo tuner.

Enjoy,

I did the same, buying an Onkyo t410 tuner for $20 at the local pawn shop then scored a very nice HK TU9600 for $70 a big jump in quality. I am however considering jumping up again since we listen to lots of radio. Sort of like dating :)
I would start looking after you purchase a tuner just to fill the void, I would start in every thrift store in your area and beyond. You will be very surprised at the many tuners and receivers people just discard. I picked up a great shape kenwood 8300 for 20.00 and a Misubishi df-20 for 25.00 so buy one now and start the search you will be well rewarded.
How much do you want to spend?
There is a used Proton 440 here on A'Gon right now for $100. I don't think for the price you can do better.
NAD is alao a good choice if you want to spend a little more.
