yummy!
looks like the price is too high.
I'd like to look into more all in one designs myself. The M3 with the network player option, their application download and a single ethernet connection is a perfect example. Judging by the age of this thread there's not much else out there or maybe forgoing the years of USB refinement is just not audiophile enough? The Sonnet Morpheus / Hermes is not quite a one box solution. https://www.sonnet-audio.com/Product_index.html |
I purchased a Bricasti M3 with the network option. Took a little risk as based purcahsed on phone calls, reviews but also strongly influnced by US based company. Very happy with build quality, sound quality and streaming / network reliability. My suggestion; if going with a single box solution (which I love) make sure the company understands networking / streaming as well as DAC function. Look at companies with profession recording studio experience.

I am interested in Bricasti.... I am squirreling some money away for a dac down the road. The OP is correct with respect to networking and software. The best hardware is only as good as the firmware that controls it. RME is a good example, their products integrate seamlessly with my PC. Their software support is second to none and this is because of their roots in pro audio. |
@oddiofyl, if you like the RME sound I think you will like the M3 sound. I've owned the RME ADI-2 DAC FS and Bricasti M3 and thought the RME was cut along the same lines sonically speaking. It reminded me very much of the M3; I found the M3 to offer better dynamics and a little more resolution and separation, but overall I found them to sound more similar than not and both were very easy to listen to without being forward or analytical. I never tried the RME as a preamp but the M3 as a preamp to my Pass Labs amp was very good. In the end I've sold both to go with an NOS R2R DAC and sound, but both were excellent in my view. The RME I think is a killer DAC for the price and truly made me wonder how much money is justified for a good DAC.Cheers |
After your time with the M3 which NOS R2R DAC are you considering? Recently I came very close to pulling the trigger on the Bricasti MC1. I'd be upgrading my dated Metrum Acoustics Mini NOS. Without much experience I'm skeptical of losing the Metrum's basic presentation. |
