I have to agree with the above - there is nothing I've heard the comes close to the Shunyatas. I am using the Mamba (amazing but expensive) and have heard from Caelin Gabriel at Shunyata that the Sidewinder is REALLY close at a list price of less than half that of the Mamba. I would recommend you TRY any cable you are going to buy before you buy it. They will all sound different.
I have tried power cords up to 500.00 and found that LAT International cords are giant killers. You can buy 2 for 200.00. In my system, the more expensive cords were only marginally better(if at all) Good luck.
Definitely go with Powersnakes Sidewinder model which just came out, $280 retail but you can get for under $250 if you do some searching, also would not go with too short a length as this does not improve performance. Cable Co. has them now www.fatwyre.com Also check Powersnakes website www.powersnakes.com for more info on Sidewinder....."get bit by the best"
Hey if you want to have some fun with power cords, try the Edge power cord. I bought a few of these cords through auction and compared them to my MIT Z-Cord II and Kimber Kable(PowerKord). The Edge cords outperformed these cords in all areas. Detail and imaging was improved. The Edge cords are very neutral and musical. In fact you probably get 4 of them for under $200. But don't let the low price fool you, they work excellent and I ended up selling both the MIT Z Cords II and Kimber Power Kords with a lot of extra money left over to buy more CDs.
I have had good results with the VansEvers cords. Their standard cord sell for $150
David, you've already made up your mind, but I'm gonna tell you my opinion of the HT 11 cord anyway. I tried one for 3 months, and didn't prefer it to my amp's stock Belden cord, and preferred the MIT Z-Cord 2 on my CD player. I'm still looking for better cords, and will be trying Shunyata Sidewinder and Black Mamba, and also Purist Audio Proteus (too many bastards interested in the Shunyatas lately, so I've had to wait my turn!). Another one I've tried that outperformed the HT cord was an ESP Power Flow. It was much smoother, much higher rez on both CD player and amplifier. However, neither it nor the HT cord were tonally neutral, both had a forward treble with both amp and CD player. If you need a forward treble, the ESP would fit the bill.
BMPNYC..... I have the H.T. PRO-SILWAYS between My Rogue99 and DYNA-70 I have read using all Harm Tech. I.C.s,power cords and speaker cable makes an awesome synergy, more than the synergy you would get from other manufacturers line.I've also read lots of people are dumping all their mix and match I.C.s,cords and cables to go 100% Harm.Tech. Thats my plan so far unless someone can convince me otherwise.
Hi David, I have been wondering about the same thing. I just bought the Harmonic Tech. Cyberlink Platinum interconnect and am currently breaking it in. I have read at the PLANET HIFI website that H.T. recommends that you use their power cords in conjunction with their cables to get the best results. I have the Denon AVR-5700, which has quite a hefty cord of its own and would appreciate some advice as to if I can expect to hear an improvement with a new power cord. Good advice Jaguar, thanks.
Hi David...If I read correctly, you are looking to a half meter long power cord. Some of todays technology could reduce your choices since their design requires 1 to 2 meters for the cord to operate as designed. Nevertheless, I would strongly suggest a Powersnake Sidewinder. Its technology is new and is the hottest power cord on the market. Shunyata states on their website that you can order these with 'custom' lengths. I have auditioned one at my local dealer and was pleasantly surprised at its performance. I currently use Black Mambas which are a step above the Sidewinder but not in your requested price range. The retail price is $280 for their standard cord which is 5 or 6 ft long. If they could make yours at or close to your requested length, I'm sure it would fall below $200. I would guess you've seen some of the responses we PowerSnake owners give on any power cord questions asked at this website. The cords are so remarkable that well, I guess we just can't help ourselves in giving them our utmost praises. Please go to their website at powersnakes.com and check them out. Shunyata is the only way to go...
