Best of Hits?

When you see a CD that is a compilation and/or best of artists, are those the same exact tracks the artists released for original hits? I know there can be several "takes" in recording studio so not sure if best of equal same as original hit.

There is no rule that says  its exactly the same as any prior releases.   It may be in many cases but also may be different case by case.

Most-likely no.
Every released record has it's own 'master' who put tracks together. In case of compilation it's master 'A' and in case of album it's another master.
