The Band--The Last Waltz

Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore East--This version of Stormy Monday has the best live back-to-back (organ in the middle) guitar solos ever recorded. Kinda hard to play as well...unless you are Duane and Dickie, that is...

Nothing wrong with most any of the others listed here as well...pretty good cross-section of musical styles, tastes, and genres.

I really like live albums and have plenty of double live albums. For me, the criteria for a great live album is when it is better than the original studio tracks. Two such double live albums have already been mentioned:

The Tubes - "What do You Want From Live"

Willie Nelson and Family - "Willie and Family Live"

I also love Little Feat, Frampton, Live at Leeds (neither the original (1xLP), or complete concert (3xLP) are double LPS), Rush, Rare Earth, etc., but the two I mentioned above get the most playing time on my TT.

Genesis "Seconds Out"!

Drums are incredible, Chester Thompson kills it and when Phil Collins joins in on songs like " Los Endos" and the end of "Afterglow"  it simply amazing!

I think I've seen one post that listed anything recorded after the 1970's - I guess that the 60's and 70's were the heyday of live rock albums?

Thats a good question. Rattle and Hum was an 80's live double? I have it on CD. 

@voodoolounge - yes, I just checked and apparently it was, though I don't think I ever even saw a vinyl of it.

I've got this promo-only 'Warner Brothers Music Show' live U2 album from 1981 that I got back when I was in the record business, but that's only a single album.

I'll put in a vote for Steve Winwood "Greatest Hits Live"

AMTL for Roxy & Elsewhere - I never tire of it.  The video of the concert is also amazing, everybody is so in synch, and Ruth is an absolute baller on percussion.

Zappa live in NY

Frank's halloween Palladium shows were legendary. 

Bill Withers Live at Carnegie Hall double vinyl.

This album is a great listen from beginning to end.  Bill really engages the audience throughout the concert. The final song of the album, Harlem - Cold Baloney is so fun to listen to. When Bill tells the audience that.... "this is a show-nuff  shakem on down."  This is a thrilling moment in the show.
