Berning TF-10 to TF-12. anyone do that?

Palasar...What are the differences sonically between the Mc40's (which I also have) and the ZH270? actually can you tell me about EA 2101 and 230, compared to the MC40's?

I was pondering having an all Berning rig but cant afford the newer models.

Even at the lowest volume setting (79), the preamp doesn't completely mute.  Nothing is wrong with your unit.  To completely mute the unit, there is a mute button on the remote, but not on the front panel (mute will engage the small dots at the bottom of the volume display).
