Bad idea?

I really don't want to spend over $1000 for a pair of speaker cables especially when I don't need them 8 ft long. Would it be a bad idea to buy just one cable and cut it in half. One side would be bananas with the other side bare wire?

Thanks

I’ve a pair with Naim Atom and ATC SCM 7 speakers (bi-wire).  Nicely made, inexpensive and American handmade.  Trifecta!  Have fun.  Ciao

Every copper wire is oxygen free unless it is tarnished. Oxygen free is Marketing hype

One more endorsement for Blue Jeans cables. There cables have proven a great addition in my system.

If you only need 4 foot cables, I don't see why not.  Seems like a good idea.  From the other posts, there are lots of good options and it is easy and clean to have them terminated by the pros.  My buddy terminated his cables with good connectors and shrink wrap and they look just like from a factory.  I personally don't care for bare wire.  Do you have a speaker cable picked out yet?  I keep think about new cables and was told DH labs T-14 is good, but I have not tried it.
