Aurender Dac upgrade

Checking to see if anyone out there in Agon land has or is using a Aurender A100 with an outboard Dac. Been thinking thats my best choice for a upgrade given where Im at equipment wise but Im getting advice to dump the A100 and start new. The dealers that I’ve used locally are both telling me the unit/ technology is old and that I would be better off starting over, any thoughts or advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Imagine a dealer telling you that you need more new equipment that you think you do.

I am always a fan of the DAC as a seperate.  The DAC is the most impactful piece of equipment in digital sound with many levels of quality and alternative designs, each with their own sound.

A DAC makes 10x as much differnce as a streamer.

I think your aurender streamer is top quality and probably hard to improve upon.  Go with a quality DAC.  My DAC is the most expenive piece of equipment I own.

Thanks Carlsbad, both of these dealers have given me what I thought was solid advice in the past, Seems to me the steamer side of this component would be fine and that as you say the Dac side would be the obvious upgrade, that was actually why I bought the thing in the first place, because I could upgrade it that way. One of them did say something funny however,he told me “ you can tell  a digital device is outdated because you’ve opened the box “ and I’ve known that which is also why I built my system for vinyl playback ,but streaming is just so damn cool !

Streaming is cool, amazing what is at your fingertips.

I bought an Aurender A10 as my one box solution for my first foray into streaming.  Little did I know that I would soon step into deeper water and acquire additional digital technology.   I've since added a musetec 005 DAC and it was a huge upgrade.  There is a very long thread here about this DAC; there is some recent controversy regarding measurements.

I definitely agree that you should consider a new DAC as your next move, as a new DAC could hugely elevate your streaming SQ.  You can always buy a new streamer after acquiring and setting up a DAC if you are still dissatisfied.

BTW, I highly recommend the 005.  It is a phenomenal bit of kit IMO.

Thx Car123 , tip from a fellow cyclist, nice! Gotta tell ya though that list of 3k dacs now just grew by one I missed that one somehow. I went to those two shops yesterday to actually hear a few Dacs rather than read about them  ( just finished reading about the 005 btw) its just overwhelming the number of units available in that price point and also the reviews/comparisons. Im not sure how I can do this without having the feeling I should have gone another way , for me its always about chasing a better sound and Im pretty sure it is for most everyone else on this forum as well. Id put it to a vote but I know that’ll just create even more confusion ,hey its a hobby/journey right? there should be no looking back.
