Audio Physic Virgos......

I am looking for amplification for these babies, I love their world class soundstaging, musicality, and precision. Any owners please write with components they have found successful, thanks Mark

I recently purchased the Virgo 3's and I use the Sonic Frontiers Power 2. The combination offers superb soundstaging and a very revealing sound.
I have Audio Physic Libra's and am using a Music Reference RM 9 MkII, 125 WPC with 6550 tubes. This is a great match up and I am sure would work well with the Virgo's as well. I previously had a Audio Research D 70 Mk II, which did not have quiet enough power, and could not match the transparency and soundstage of the RM 9.
I run mine with a Jadis Defy 7 Mark IV. It is a wonderful match. The amp retails new for $8500.00 but can be found
used for much less. The best under $10,000 amp I have ever
heard.
I've been enjoying my Virgo IIs with Blue Circle BC2 monos. Upstream components are Sonic Frontiers Line 3 and YBA CD1a. The sound is amazing, but I haven't tried the Virgos with another amp, so I can't really advise. I have heard that the Virgos generally work better with higher power. I'm hoping to try another amp soon too, just to see if I get a different sound. Good luck,
John.
I owned the virgo's for 2 years, and have heard them with around a dozen amp/pre combo's.

Best ss : pass labs aleph 2 w/aleph P.
Best tube : vt100m2 (esp with a vk-30SE or 50SE preamp)
Cabling : Nordost red dawn/spm/quattro-fil for i/c and
spkr. Red dawn is a good price/performance
point for them.

Generally these respond best to medium powered, high detail, low grain amps. Nordost red dawn's are a great cable match.

One of my friends had the full blown spectral setup with the virgo's. You do have to like that spooky 'hyper detailed' spectral sound, because the virgo's will give you more of it than any other speaker.

I've heard the APV's several times with the Hovland preamp and amp. For some reason they are being positioned as a natural combination. As a combination they offer stunning detail and imaging and are not harsh, but every time I heard them I felt that something was missing - harmonic information or "musicality", whatever you call it. I would not be happy owning this combination and I would caution against purchasing this combination unless you have a chance to hear it and develop your own opinion. There definitely were other listeners who liked it, and some others who also disliked it, citing the same issues I did.

Pass Labs Aleph 2 Monoblocks, perfect. I also use BAT VK200 also with good results.
The Virgo's sing with my Spectral DMA 200. The amp is class A and very fast. The amp allows the speakers to work to their fullest potential as it is very detailed and musical.
I have the AP Libras, which I power with Bel Canto EvO 200.2 monoblocks. The combination works beautifully.
I enjoyed these for a while. Upline I had a S. Yorke TT/ Symphonic Line Ref cdp /CAT III & S-Line Klangquelle pre / Bearlabs cables / and played with some amps. Generally found that the more current available the better -- i.e., no compression, fuller sound, good transients and correct timbres w/out compromising clarity.
The amps I enjoyed (from a limited sample, I admit) were:
Symphonic Line RG7, KR Antares, KR Monos (6-8000), S-Line Kraft 250A (the best sound IMO, but overkill?), YBA Passion stereo.
The first two amps -- while the cheapest -- were not, by any stretch of the imagination lacking in overall presentation, musical enjoyment or otherwise. Pls note that I listen to classical & blues, YMMV.
There are surely many other choices. Good luck!
