Reference my previous post tonight.
When comparing the original lyrics from 1963 to the later Manfred Man version you can see two verses dropped. The first… The Spanish-American War/The Civil War section. The other that included, “l learnt to hate the Russians all through my whole life. If another war comes, it’s them we must fight”
Heavier stuff with some foreboding and maybe prophesy. Manfred Mann did change a few minor lines like “The country l come from is called the Midwest” for a more recognised term (in Europe) “The country l come from is part of the free west”
Bob laid it down the way he saw it in those Cold War times. It looks like he had the same view on Russians as General George S Patton who said that of them, at the end of WW2.
Bob was more political than l thought.
