anyone try powered Mackie Hd1531 for home use?

I use inexpensive powered monitors from M-Audio in my home studio and in a couple of Sonos remote zones. They're very good in the applications for which I use them and I suspect that better examples of the breed would be be a good value choice in a 2 channel set-up. The top end (and often very expensive) powered pro monitors have sounded very, very good to me when I've heard them in (in commercial studio environments).

Make sure you get them on stands to raise them to the correct height. I don't think pole-mount stands would be appropriate quality for this purpose. The listening position should be far enough away such that the drivers integrate properly.

I use JBLs (PRX412M) on Target stands in a 11' x 14.5' room with listening position about 9' away from them. No subs used. They are passive and I drive them with a Crown XLS 2500 power amp. They rock.

PA speakers don't usually have the detail of a good studio monitor but for much rock music that can be a good thing.

That's a good idea. In this case, I feel a demo is an absolute must. There are too many unknowns. After you listen to them, can you post and tell us what you think?

I put down deposit today...grabbing them Monday. They sounded great with Tom Petty's Mojo....Black Mountains track Duncan.....The Melvin's Revolver...even compressed Slacker Radio sounded good on my Galaxy Note 3. My VMPS FF3 SRE speakers have a issue with panels and Brian's death really makes it hard to repair but they are bi amp with active bass crossover so I am gonna pull planar wings off and just use them for bass to see how it works. Stands will get figured out in quick order once set up. I am excited for what may be. Vertical and horizontal dispersion was pretty good...nice slam and ofcourse reasonably limitless SPL levels. Smoother sound than most probably assume...my tube pre should make it even better. Will report more and thanks kindly for ideas!

Oops sorry I bought the JBL Pro PRX735 Speakers.

Hint: see how they sound on "The Sheffield Drum and Track Record" Tracks 5 and 6. You might fool your neighbors into thinking you've brought a drum kit into the house.

Ha! That would be fun.....wish I had them now.

Did you end up picking them up? If so, how do you like them so far?

I'm still evaluating them, bass is plenty strong with no need for sub...my solid state pre mates better than my tube unit. The midrange and treble really sound good, I think the weakness is of course cabinet bracing but these are intended to be portable. More to come.

No regrets on the JBL PRX735's I like most everything about them, they don't image like normal audiophile speakers but that's not really what gets me. I get great bass, no fatigue, unlimited volume in a cheap package. Solid state works better than tubes to my ears, For $2000 I can sell of $6000 in used priced gear, pocket a few bucks and end up happy. Cheers
