I agree with you. When my integrated amp was tube (Mystere), the difference between 44.1kHz and 176.4kHz on CDT2 MKIII was practically non noticeable, now with Pathos InPol integrated (kind of hybrid) it is quite pronounced. I think the Pathos is more revealing, like your preamp/amp chain.
4x Upsampling On My Transport
The Jay's Audio CDT3 Mk3 has a toggle switch on the back that can be flipped to engage 4x upsampling of the CD (from 44.1 Redbook) to !76.4. The conversion is done within the transport - not the DAC (Holo May Kitsune.) When my tube preamp and power amp were in the lineup this feature never sounded very good, I hadn't engaged it for the last 2 years. However upon replacing the tube amps with a Holo Serene KTE and a a pair of Audion monoblocs I have found the upsampler to be a stellar thing and never disengage it.
So is the sudden new thing a result of the faster GanFets utilizing the upsample mo' better?
