Best set up for 78's ? Instead of the PL120, for around $200 you can get the Stanton T.90. The Stanton comes with a stanton 500 cart so it's a better deal. And the Stanton 500 also happens to be the best affordable cart for 78 playback. You will have to get a 3 mil styl...
Cleaning smaller records I forgot to put in the link. Or Agon pulled it out. If it's the former, here it is.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fW9NWHvv8fc&feature=related
Who gets your system and music after you are gone? I hope my kids will want it, at least the records. My wife doesn't want anything except an AM radio to listen to the weather.
JMW cueing problem Two good solutions. Thanks.
Mono/Stereo Carts? You can play all that stuff with your stereo cart. Your bad luck lies elsewhere.
Tube Preamp w / phono needed to match SS Amp Audible illusions 3a was the best sounding preamp I ever owned.
Bookshelf Speakers with “Big” sound? Second the FritzSpeakers. Call him up and tell him what your wants and needs are and see what he proposes.
Any High-end speakers "kid-friendly" not fragile? My then 2-yr old walked up to my Quads and wiped his nose on the grill cloth. I should do the same thing to his iPod now, although it'll be much easier to clean. Moral: no audio gear is kid friendly.
VPI Dust Cover VPI dust cover is crap. Hard to use, limited protection, and for what it is, it is not inexpensive. $129 turntables manage to come with adequate dust covers.
MONO cartridges Is it not the case that playing stereo-cut grooves (including mono material reissed the last 30ish years) with a "true mono" cartidge like a VRII damages the grooves? Caveat emptor!
78 RPM - Potential for better sound than digital? I agree with and would like to expand on Mothra's post. I have gear from many eras. My theory is that music typically sounds "best" -- that is, most enjoyable, to me -- when played on the equipment it was expected to be played on when the recordin...
Has anyone considered reverse stereo playback? No, it's primarily a problem for classical music. It's disconcerting (dis-concerting?) to hear an orchestra or string quartet set up in a mirror image. As for drums, I don't think it's generally a good mixing practice to have them spread out on the...
Has anyone considered reverse stereo playback? Severa early stereo preamps had a L R reverse function. Too bad that function has been dropped.
Do You Remember Your First CD Player? I bought it in '87.It broke after like two years. I'd always heard to stay away from extended warranties but for some reason this was the one time I actually bought one. How 'bout that! But the warranty was from the infamous Crazy Eddie. It/he was ...
Tube smell? I've always thought "tube smell" was dust burning off. I enjoy the tube smell from my vintage gear. |
