Sub $2,000 Integrated Amp Recommendations
Some good choices on your list. I had the M3si briefly and liked it, but it did not enough power for my speakers. Take a look at NAD as well. You might want to aim higher and troll the used market for a while, some great deals to be had on lightl...
Do You Buy Speakers Without Hearing Them?
Just did. I bought some KEF Reference 1’s used, without hearing them. These were preceded by LS50’s, so I figured it was low risk. An excellent upgrade.
Cream — Stormy Monday
@stuartk my favorite track from those shows as well. Something special happens on that one.
New streamer
@audphile1 That is very helpful, thanks. My DAC is due for replacement as well, but trying to spread things out a bit.
New streamer
@audphile1 Very clear, thanks for the explanation. It now makes sense why they do not include SPDIF in the lower models, do it right, or not at all.
New streamer
Addendum. @ghdprentice Aurender advocate, what interface do you use? I know some of the higher models support other output types.
New streamer
I am contemplating a streamer upgrade as well and Innuos and Aurender (N150 as well) are in the mix. I have always used SPDIF, and it seems that these brands tend to limit the user to a USB interface. While my DAC has USB, it is not the latest fro...
Recommendations on integrated amps
Any unit must either have USB or HDMI inputs to connect directly to the Nucleus, or have network/Wifi and be Roon ready. Guessing the Wi-Fi/Roon is the best option here. I like NAD, they usually punch above their weight. Maybe give Music Direct a ...
Recommendations on integrated amps
How do you plan to connect the nucleus to the amp? If I am reading this right, the amp must have a DAC built in to process the digital out from Roon.
Mid-Fi, Hi-Fi or.....?
@johnnotkathi Those jumpers look decent, just make sure to get the directions right when you install them. Pre out -> Main in. It is a super easy update, just pull the metal jumpers out and replace them with the cables. I used the Schiit Freya...
What to ask when buying used speakers?
@yyzsantabarbara The chain is a custom Pi/Allo streamer -> Schiit Gumby -> Benchmark LA4 -> Coda #8. I am now looking at upgrades for the streamer and the DAC is probably due.
Mid-Fi, Hi-Fi or.....?
I had that very same integrated for a number of years, it is very good. However, I wanted to see if I could do better and added a separate preamp, bypassing the one in the NAD. This was a significant improvement and removed some of the grain in th...
Anyone buy one yet? Thoughts?
Reviving this thread as I ran across some comments on the Arce elsewhere, and I have recently started using Roon which makes this an option. Is anyone using one of these? Thoughts?
What to ask when buying used speakers?
Just an update here, I did end up purchasing a used pair of KEF Reference 1's from TMR. The feedback here was very helpful and allowed me to proceed with confidence. Granted it was pretty low risk as they were certified pre-owned and backed up by ...
Is more amp power always better...?
@decooney My pure Class A solid state 50w amp with mosfet opts (always on), sounds better than my other Class AB amps where the first 10w was supposed to be Class A.   Good point, pure Class A is another option. I am guessing that amps designe...
