AR VT 200 MK I vs AR HD 220
No, just the VT. It might help if you list the rest of your system and the type of sound you like or expect. The fact that you live in Italy may put you at risk if you ever have a problem with an amp thats made overseas. It may be a better move fo...
AR VT 200 MK I vs AR HD 220
Mine sounded very nice until it blew up and pieces flew through the top vent and hit me in the face while I was sitting in my listening chair. The upside was that it was an enclosed unit. Most tube amps are open. It could've taken my eye out. (It ...
Speakers for Outlaw RR2150?
I would try to get a little more input from your friend as to what type of sound he likes. We can all tell you what we like, but your friend has to listen to the speakers, not us. Also, I wouldn't worry about the speakers being a 3 way, and not so...
Adding an expensive power cord to Chip amp
What's expensive? I get the basic idea of what you are asking but just going by price is no always the best way to go. Espically with cables and power products. The only thing better than a good sounding, expensive power cord is a cheap one that s...
Power conditioning / surge protection
Stringreen,Overall, we probably agree on most things regarding power conditioners. That said, you may want to have a look at Furutech. I have a e-tp80. Its not that expensive and I haven't found a situation where it hurts SQ at all. (I still plug ...
Power conditioning / surge protection
" It's currently plugged into one of those surge protectors you get for 20 bucks at Staples. The odds are against it (and I'm insured), but I want to be sure a surge doesn't wipe out my gear."As far as sound quality goes, you just have to experime...
Cary 303t Pro or Ayre c5xemp
"Zd542- Are you saying both Ayre and Cary would be a good replacement?"It depends. Personally, I feel that they are both better than the Arcam. That dosen't mean that you will, however. In your OP you say that you like a warm, analog type of sound...
1st post- New 2 vinyl. Pro-Ject Debut III question
I just read my post again. I messed it up. What Ablang said is correct. If your TT has a built in phono stage then you need to use a regular line level input. If, not, then you need to use the one in your preamp or buy an external one. I'm almost ...
Tubes for Conrad Johnson PV 12 preamp
Call the cable company. They'll send some tubes out to you so you can demo them in your system.
1st post- New 2 vinyl. Pro-Ject Debut III question
I'm pretty sure that the Debut III does not have a built in phono preamp. If thats the case, then you can't use the phono input on your preamp. You will need to connect it to one of the other line level inputs on your Carver.
can u cut longer interconnects and reterminate?
Unless you have a very odd/exotic cable design that may pose problems if you cut it, you should have no problem at all. Sound quality will only be effected if you don't do a good job. If its expensive, factory terminated cable, it would probably b...
CD transport recommendations
Grannyring,Thanks. I don't know if I agree or disagree with you yet, but at least your giving us some good, usable info to go on. Also, the list of actual CD player models you use for comparison, I think, is very helpful. Thanks again.
CD transport recommendations
"Ever notice how the computer server users talk about how the sound is as good or better than cd transports but you hardly ever see any of the used top cd transports for sale?"Thats a very good point. To add to it, I do see a lot of server fans th...
Cary 303t Pro or Ayre c5xemp
Onhwy61,I wasn't trying to put Rowland down, or anything like that, its a great amp. Just to clarify, the side to side imaging is OK, as well as image height. The real problem is with image depth. Its pretty much completely flat; nothing whatsoeve...
