Is built in phono preamp usually best way to go?
"Just for hypothetical analysis lets say you buy a $1500 preamp and a $1500 phono preamp. Would you not under most but not all circumstances be better off with an added $500 phono module in preamp?"I know what you are asking, but the simple answer...
What's the sonic advantage of bi-wiring
Generally speaking, you can expect a cleaner sound overall with better separation between instruments. A little better imaging also. The real issue with bi-wiring is, is it worth doing? That all depends on your equipment. Most people will tell you...

If you already have the power supply, I say just get the best phono preamp you can afford. It will make the biggest difference.
Best bi-ampable monitor against rear wall $2500
Its a pretty small room. Why not just use 1 amp. You may not have quite as much power, but you should be able to make up for it by having a much bigger selection of speakers. Another option would be to look into having someone bridge your amps for...
CB Radio interference
"I live in new constructionÂ… every corner was cut during buildingÂ… the electricity sucksÂ… I can even hear emi when someone rings the buzzer!"Well, thats what you get for living in Brooklyn. If you want, I'll give you my uncle Vinny's number. He'll...
DIY question on a preamp problem could use help...
There should be no problem confirming that the problem lies in the preamp by removing it from the system and just using the volume control on the dac. Other than that, I think the OP is right in that the preamp is the issue. After reading Onemugs ...
Music suddenly sounds wrong, no dynamics
Given your description, I take it that this is a problem that is constant. Like Xti16 said, if it was a power issue, it would probably come and go. You need to isolate the problem. Have you made any changes to your system at all? Even if its somet...
CB Radio interference
Now you know why the rents are cheaper in Brooklyn. What kind of building do you live in? Is it pre war?

Did the low noise tubes help at all?Another thing you may want to try is raising the gain on your DAC. Since your speakers are not super efficient, maybe you are pushing the preamp too hard. Also, how does it sound going from the dac to the amp?

I've had both of those cartridges my self. Moving up to the 20 will be a big improvement by itself. As far as the phono preamp upgrade goes, I would go a different route. Its less money, but I would get a DV P-75 phono pre instead. Needless to say...

I'm not 100% sure, but it sounds like a gain issue to me. I don't know what kind of speakers you have but this type of thing often occurs if they are very efficient. If you can, try a different source that has a lower output than what you currentl...
Sugden Integrated IA-4 versus Ayre AX-7
"I basically have an Ayre CX-7 that I no longer use and I have seen a Sugden at a decent price so I thought a system overhaul might be in order-I can get the Sugden on a deposit for a trial so I was interested in opinions."I'm not clear on the abo...
Arcam, Cambridge Audio or Sony: Most musical??
Overall, I agree with Sandstone. I have an Arcam 33 myself. I don't use it as my main player, but I like it very much. Its one of those CD players that you can listen to all day. As far as the Ayre goes, I think its much better than the Arcam. But...
Help Choosing a Power Conditioner with protection.
Have a look at this thread: Power conditioning / surge protection. Some of us were going over what line conditioners do and don't do. You should be able to get some useful info.
Sugden Integrated IA-4 versus Ayre AX-7
I had the 2.5's. I can't imagine you not getting good results with the Ayre. One of my friends has a Sugden. The things a fire hazard. If you need a little more power than the Ayre, the BAT300 sounds great with the 2.5's.
