90db 4 ohm with tubes?
I know on some Cary amps, they allow you to switch feedback on and off. I don't remember if the V12 was one of them.
Speaker cables: $3000 or $380. What do you get??
"Speaker cables: $3000 or $380. What do you get?? "You don't get either one. The reason is simple; you don't know what you are doing. It would be better for you to get a decent pair of entry level speaker cables ($75-$150). When you can answer the...
Why Build Quality Matters
I remember reading the thread that mentioned Synergistic cables build quality. I'm not a big fan of their cables overall, but I have tried them in my system several times on loan from The Cable Company. To me they looked like they were very well m...
Do amps have a sweet spot?
The simple answer to your question is yes. Its very possible that your amp will sound better when you push it. I differ a bit with Ivan, though, in that you can have the same issue with very expensive components. It all comes down to system matchi...
Power cord suggestions?
Its hard to go by other people's experiances when you are talking about power cords. You may have the same exact components but not the same electrical system. I wouldn't buy anything without a demo first. Quite often, an expensive PC can have a n...
Van Halen HD tracks
The best quality VH I've heard is the unremasterd version of Women and Children First. CD or vinyl, they both sound great.
Speakers for Electronic Music?
A pair if Def Tec's with a built in sub would probably be a good choice. It will keep the cost of a new amp down, as well.
Phono preamp for old Thorens / new Marantz
Entry level units from Cambridge and MF look pretty good. I can definately recommend a DV P75, but that may be over budget.
90db 4 ohm with tubes?
Your amp should have no problem driving those speakers. Not only that, you can probably get good results running you amp in triode mode. If you have a good local dealer, they will almost certainly let you bring your amp into the store and try it f...
Vibration
"06-08-13: ZenblasterWhat vibration or mechanical energy are you trying to isolate with a amp stand? Are they just for tube amps to reduce harmonics? They do look cool sometimes."You are trying to isolate vibration and/or mechanical energy.
Upgrade Questions
I can't say it any better that Viridian does in his first post. Assuming no miss matched components, I feel the preamp is the most important component to get right for a great system. The only caution I would give is not to be focused on getting a...
Where can I find 1/4 20 speaker spikes???
The Cable Company
Anyone try this way to wire your loudspeakers?
Mchd1,"I have a pair of Mirage M3si speakers and I do not intend to upgrade."Those are really good speakers. I used to be a dealer and know them very well. They are much improved over the original M series. The si's have an excellent balance from ...
New tubes biasing problems
Yes, you shouldn't have any problems using a different, working tube until you get the replacement.
Art Audio Jota VS Audio Note Conquest
I'm not sure what your budget is, but you may want to consider a VAC 30/30. It uses 2 300b's for each channel. I've had one myself for several years and can't say enough good about it. I'm sure the AN and Art are great also.I don't know where you ...
