What power cord are you using on your Vandy 5A's
Monk, I am very curious about the differences you heard with power cords on the 5As. While I agree that the setup, room, and overall system synergy is important, I have not been able to detect anything similar to what you report. One possible diff...
What power cord are you using on your Vandy 5A's
I am using the stock cords, as recommended by Richard Vandersteen. No other cord has ever made a discernable difference. It is very difficult to detect subtle changes in the 18-100 Hz range. I would not spend money here, but on the source cords in...
Audioquest DBS cable, how long to "settle in"?
According to Audioquest the DBS wires are ready to go immediately and do not need burn in. Theory is the dielectric is already conditioned and stable and won't change over time thus effecting the electric fields around the wire. So, just connect u...
AR ref2 mk1 or ref 3
I have owned 3 ARC linestages, and listened to several more extensively. As Oneobgyn says, the Ref3 is such a leap, there should be no question which to choose. I now own the Ref3.
Home made cable lifters.
Just a couple of more observations about the fishing line to cable interface I described above (11/16). All other approaches recommended so far have some dense material between the cable and floor, and this can restrict the formulation of the lowe...
Problem with VPI 16.5
The lid on the VPI 16.5 contacts the top of the suction tube when closing. It can stress the tube and also causes scratching of the lid. I suggest removing the tube for cleaning and not replacing it until you are ready to use the unit again.
Best rock song of all times
According to my Mississippi rock and roll playing, part time physics teacher and farmer, Steve, it is definitely Rick Derringer's "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo".
Home made cable lifters.
Sorry, I forgot to mention a very important aspect of implementing the fishing line to cable interface. Do not under any circumstances tie the lines too tightly around the cable, as it tends to constrict both frequency response and soundstage size...
Home made cable lifters.
For the absolute best cable/floor isolation, take fishing line and suspend them from the ceiling. Space the lines a couple of feet apart and keep the cable a few inches above the floor. You might start with a good clear monofilament or fluorocarbo...
Inventory of vinyl - what software do you use?
Fully agree with 4 yanx. I use CDTrustee for all CD's and records as well. It not only fills in a relational database, but alows searches on many attributes, produces reports, CD covers etc. The functionality is way beyond what you can do in Excel...
Graham 2.2 traking force, do you use more?
Bob Graham,What about the Nightengale II on the 2.2? Your literature shows 1.8g VTF with no range. Should one experiment with a bit more VTF, or is that the exact best setting?
Powering on/off amps with preamp trigger
Tboooe,There may not be enough current available in the trigger circuit to close a relay that switches 120v. You should look at the specifications on available relays and check with the preamp manufacturer. I tried this once and it didn't work.
Analog experiment
I have found that when evaluating any change, it is best to spend several days of listening before undoing the change and listening again. Do not try to analyze what is happening - just listen and enjoy. The difference, if there is one, will reall...
Amps and Quatros
The high pass filters are also available in RCA, so that might expand your search.
Richard Vandersteen at Audio Connection
Trelja,I too have found Richard to be sincere and of high integrity. Since he discovered the "open baffle" and time and phase correct advantages years ago, he has remained true to them throughout. This consistency of design philosophy has held con...
