Audio Diversity - What is it?
Ah, Twl is in prime agent-provocatuer form...I will agree with him, thus disproving his theory. :-)
Your favourite recordings that everyone else hates
Sean, rejected (or ignored) by the critics and the public, with bad sound (by audiophile standards), is an apt description of at least half my collection.
Another 6550 vs. KT88, 90, et. al.?
Trelja, I read carefully your comments on these tubes in the archived posts. In those threads there were some dissenters who seemed to be expressing basically the opposite view, but many seemed to agree with your take, although this variability co...
I adore my Shahinian loudspeakers
FWIW, 9rw, the Shahinian's design approach doesn't bear much resemblence to any of the brands you mention, and neither do the prices. It's a speaker line I'd like to hear someday, but unfortunately doubt I ever will.
Another 6550 vs. KT88, 90, et. al.?
Mejames, I too have thought about this factor, and it seems to me that it could well be part and parcel of why tetrode has the advantages it does. After all, one is not only switching from tetrode to triode operation inside the tubes with all othe...
I adore my Shahinian loudspeakers
I've never heard any of RS's speakers, but some of the acoustic goals I think he has from reading about his work - if not always the exact design principles for getting at them - seem reminiscent to me of Roy Allison's 70's efforts, with which I'm...
Blue Gas in Tubes - Why? Is it Bad?
Elevick and Eldartford, the title of this thread may start with the words "Blue Gas...", but reading the responses and links above should make it clear that this common phenomenon does not usually indicate the presence of undesireable gas inside t...
Make me feel better
Ron, this event sounds like it's basically a rite of passage in your family...If your household were more numerous, you'd have an Insider Gold by now... :-)
Make me feel better
Exactly why I was so hesitant to purchase this cart - I don't regret it, but probably will one day...
Blue Gas in Tubes - Why? Is it Bad?
H-C, that's funny - I knew the Blue Glow was nothing to worry about for half my life when it came to my guitar amps and their 6L6's. Then recently I changed my stereo rig's amp from one using EL-34's, which never Glowed Blue in that amp, to a pair...
Make me feel better
Quincy, that's the cart I have now (M2 version, but I have to admit I was able to get away spending less with a trade-in [of my busted old AQ] and discount from The Elusive Disc, thank goodness...I also didn't have to wait like you did - what's up...
klipsch kg4's have no kick in the mid, need mods
Viper, I'd go with your sell instinct on this one. I can't make specific replacement recommendations, but feel free to email me if you want to discuss my particular criticisms of the kg4's.
Make me feel better
Add my name to the clumsy club historical rolls. This is actually a very good argument for not regretting having to play in the "merely" $250-ballpark...Just think how stupid you'd feel right about now if you had been running one of those multi-$K...
klipsch kg4's have no kick in the mid, need mods
Are your kg's the old mid-80's originals (plain "4"), or one of the later "4.X" iterations? I owned a pair of the original kg4's for a while back at that time, and can tell you that nothing you could do for or with them will make them into even a ...
Strange Tonearm Tweak. Long
Back to the Tensegrity subject for a sec: Visited Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West in Phoenix recently, and there was an obviously handmade Tensegrity sphere (composed from wooden rods with some kind of natural fiber cord and about a foot in dia...
