Finally upgrading my amp The PeachTree GAN400 is rather good for the $1000ish used price. I had it 2 times on my Magnepan LRS+ until I finally found the Sanders Magtech amp which is better for much more money. I used to own the older PEachTree NOVA 150 and found out via ...
Preamp for a GaN-FET amp... HOLO AUDIO Serene, I Like It Like That! (youtube.com)
Preamp for a GaN-FET amp... The Holo Serene is like the Benchmark LA4 preamp, except a tiny bit warmer. Hardly noticeable. I have both and have no desire to change. This was after trying about 6 other preamps.
Review of ultraRendu / opticalRendu The OpticalRendu is not difficult to setup. At one time I had 3 of them streaming ROON throughout the house. I used PowerLine adapters (recommend TP-LINK not Netgear) to get the bits to the different rooms of the house. The oR is much better than ...
Bananas rule, spades drool. End of discussion. Purifi and Benchmark measured the different types of connectors and found the bananas the worst measuring. There was an article/interview about this when Purifi was releasing their first amp module. Benchmark also mentioned the same in some articl...
Floorstanding speaker experiences/recommendations in the $12-25k range I gravitate towards speaker companies that innovate with R&D, KEF, Vivid, Yamaha. I used to have Revel in this group but had tweeter issues a few times, so I skip them now. Take a look at the Yamaha NS5000 ($10k-$15k) which is packed with uber...
Maggies and subwoofer integration A friend of mine dropped by 2 weeks ago to listen to my main rig. We eventually listened to the smaller LRS+ system in my office with the KEF KC62 sub (room is 12x11x9. He was asking me about the sub because he thought the integration with the LRS...
KEF Blade or Blade 2 The blades need surprisingly a lot of power to really sing, Meaning to pair the blades with a class A amp, and truely power them correctly will cost some real money in amp pairing A KRELL Duo 300XD amp can be had used for around $7k. That is 30...
Best Circa 90's CDP I had the previously mentioned Sony SCD-1 that was modded to Vacuum State Level 5. That was a killer rig and even today could compete with the very best. It lacked in some details to today’s DACs but what a great musical presentation. However, af...
Roon is snappy responsive now Remember to reboot your ROON Core server after these updates. ROON does not ask for this but after spending a week (a few years ago) debugging ROON issues I realized a reboot is the easiest way to improve your chances of a good update.
Best Audiophile desktop for under $2500? Using a computer in an audio system can be as good as anything else mentioned here. You just need to do it correctly. I posted earlier about my $5k fan less PC. I run 6 monitors of it and it is a powerhouse machine. It does not make a peep of noi...
Comparing streamer/DACs between $5-10k If you do not need preamp functionality then a used Lumin X1 around $6-7k is what I would choose (owned it before). The LeedH volume control is great. Normally volume control on a DAC is bad at low volume. The Lumin is ALMOST perfect in this regar...
DAC/Streamer/PreAmp The Lumin P1 would be my first choice for a preamp/streamer/dac. Mainly because the P1 does fibre streaming and the Lumin is amaziing for streaming.
The new Coda S5.5 amplifier: It's a "Petite Beast"! CODA is not the easiest to sell but people who have heard it are quick to buy. I sold a few CODA items before, CSiB, 07x, and #8. I have the #16 now. I also have a Sanders Magtech that I really love with my Magnepan LRS+. I was told by Roger Sand...
Looking for recommendations for integrated with a more “organic” sound. A used KRELL k300i integrated at around $5-6k is a Class A (mostly) with a smooth buttery sound, with decent details, and powerful. The DAC module is OK and super convenient. It also has great ROON READY integration with built-in RJ45 streaming. Y... |
