@OP - go back to the Ansuz - D3 now!
Speaker Efficiency
@OP - typical 300B amplfiers start to distort above the couple of watts of their rated output.  80dB is pretty loud so, at least on peaks, you will be hearing large amounts of harmonic distortion. As the distortion products are musically consonant...
What is meant exactly by the description 'more musical'?
I would add "continuousness and coherence" in the sense that an unmusical system can make it sound like the music is being played by musicians who don't quite gel together and can't play "in the pocket". That's not an exclusive description, howev...
Getting into the music
@OP Conversely, as a musician and recordist, I have to turn off the engineering and production side of my brain rather than the audiophile side. I find it helpful to listen to the radio on an average sounding system - with less information, it's ...
Have you asked yourself this question?
@OP No. But I do keep upgrading my vinyl playback system to keep pace with my digital playback systems. However, if I didn't have a large legacy vinyl collection, then I would happily live with digital.
Does a record player make that much of a difference??
@OP - is your turntable a TT16 or 15 as I cannot find any references to a Marantz TT16 - perhaps you could post a picture which would allow a more precise response to be given. Answering generically - yes, a better turntable and arm can make a bi...
Does a particular musician’s songwriting and artistry speak to you above all others?

Which is better, a fussy speaker or a versatile one?
I expect any loudspeaker to be set up according to the manufacturer's setup protocol. In respect of expensive speakers, I'd expect the dealer to do that. Beyond that, I'd choose the speaker that best works with the equipment and room it's going to...
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound?
A properly designed large loudspeaker will not cause perspective distortion i.e. a string quartet will sound smaller than a full orchestra. However, if the frame of reference is habitual nearfield listening in a small room then there will be quit...
"The Ultra High-End Speaker."
I'm sure the OP has a nice system but, with no disrespect to the OP, the post is a bit self-serving. If the op approaches listening to other more systems from the perspective of the argument in his/her post then it is likely that his/her discrimin...
Golden Ears?
Just a few more comments on this thread, some of which have been touched on before.  There tends to be an assumption that age related hearing loss is about losing top end - which it is - but not exclusively. It also involves losing midrange in the...
Golden Ears?
@OP, regardng your difficulty hearing flutes, this may be because depending on how it's played, a flute can get pretty close to a pure sine wave i.e. it has few harmonics. A piano is the diametric opposite so even if you have a loss in a particula...

Primer on SSD and internal hard drives
Enterprise grade spinning drives are ideal for backup. Good hygene is to have a bakcup of your backup stored in a different location. The downside of enterprise grade drive is that they can be noisy so I don't use them any computer that needs to...
Are cable “upgrades” just as likely to make your system sound worse?
@OP. It certainly can. I've seen several people move towards more analytical sounding cables and then spend a fortune longer term trying to rectify imbalances in their systems. What tends to happen is that people are impressed with the additional ...
