AKM makes the best DACs
I haven't heard or owned a lot of DAC's, but have owned California Audio, Cambridge, Theta Digital, Schiit Yggy, and Cary.  Of those, the Cary DMS-700 was by far my favorite.  It uses the AKM AK4499EQ in conjunction with a FPGA chip and find it to...
Amplfiers that Sound like Pass 30.8 that are not so heavy
I was in a similar situation.  I also live in FL and downsized my house and have a smaller listening room.  I finally sold my tube amp as it made the room too warm and went with the Cary 200.2 ES after reading the professional reviews that said it...
Tidal holiday trial offer
@soix  I agree with everything you said.  I've only had my streamer for about 6-months and it is MQA ready.  I took a trial subscription to Qobuz due to the many recommendations here and subsequently bought a lifetime subscription to Roon.  Howev...
Biamp question
I bi-amped a pair of Legacy Focus speakers for years with no problem. I used the XM9 Electronic Crossover (marchandelec.com), instructions here Electronic (marchandelec.com). I used a Cary tube amp for the high frequencies and a Parasound amp for ...
I can't be the only Cary Audio DMS-600 user experiencing this problem streaming Qobuz ...
@vpm  Yes, I can confirm that I've had no problems with the Cary app for the 700.  Although I'm pretty sure that the app for the 700 is different than the app for the 600.  After trying Roon I just couldn't go back to the Cary app and bought a li...
I can't be the only Cary Audio DMS-600 user experiencing this problem streaming Qobuz ...
Just a thought -- a possible solution might be to try Roon and override the Cary app and see if the issue is resolved.  I have the DMS-700 without any problems using Qobuz.
Cary Audio SA 200.2 SE power amp (latest version)
@dilatante  Right now it's a very faint hum from both speakers, I really have to get my ear close to the speaker cone to hear it.  I am using XLR interconnects.  I did a search on ground loops and tried a few technics such as disconnecting the in...
Cary Audio SA 200.2 SE power amp (latest version)
@dilatante  I turned on my amp yesterday morning and let it run about 10 hours with no music playing, then played music during a normal session of about 2 hours.  During the day (no music playing) there was a faint buzz that would sometimes chang...
Cary Audio SA 200.2 SE power amp (latest version)
@dilatante  Interesting!  I've had mine on for a couple hours and just read your post and checked for buzzing.  I do hear a faint buzzing in both left and right channels.  My equipment is plugged into a Surgex power conditioner/surge protector.  ...
Dirac - worth activating?
As mentioned earlier, I sold my Legacy Focus speakers and now have Reference 3A Reflectors.  I have yet to insert the miniDSP as I'm in the process of moving to a different house.  My intention is to first prepare the listening room with acoustic ...
Dirac - worth activating?
I'm not familiar with your setup.  In my situation, the miniDSP DDR-24 is inserted between the preamp and power amp.  The link below goes to the manual.  Check out section 4.4 beginning on page 23. miniDSP DDRC-24 User Manual
Dirac - worth activating?
Definitely worth trying.  I bought an Arcam SR-250 AV 2-channel receiver which comes with Dirac Live.  It required a bit of a learning curve but made a huge difference in a pair of Martin Logan speakers.  I was so impressed that I bought the Mini-...
Streamer/DAC
I went with the one box option, a Cary DMS-700. I tend to keep audio equipment about 20 years, so it IS my forever streamer/DAC at my age. It’s over your budget but worth considering if you can get to $6K, and you’ll save the cost of an extra cabl...
Recommendations for Speakers that can be used close to the rear wall.
GIK Acoustics advocates placing speakers against the wall for smaller rooms.   Speaker Placement: How far from the wall should I place my speakers? - (gikacoustics.com)
Cary Audio SA 200.2 SE power amp (latest version)
Actually, I had forgotten there was a power switch in the rear of the amp! So, yes, I leave it on 24/7. It’s also kind of hard to access it on my rack.Following is from the manual: Press front panel power button to turn on and off. Button will bli...
