Phono stage gain too high??? Should I return it??
@pbnaudio The problem that the OP is having is too much gain. Why would changing the tube solve that?

You should check out the Spendor floor standers. They take up about the same space as a monitor on stands. I’ve owned a few and they were outstanding. Take a look!http://spendoraudio.com/

These are the substitutes for a 6922 tube. They are all the same gain!https://www.tubedepot.com/t/tubes/preamp-tubes/6dj8-6922-ecc88-e88cc-cv2492
Looking for amp advice (punk, rock & reggae edition)
No I have not. You have to try it with your system. I said give it a try and return it if it doesn't work out!

Check out Odyssey Audio. You can return it if it doesn’t do the trick!http://www.odysseyaudio.com/index.html

I agree with the above post. 57db is too much gain for a the high output cartridge you are using. You should return the PH7 or replace the BlackBird with a lower output cartridge. Another option is to add an attenuator between the PH7 and the LS27...
Primaluna Dialogue poremium, Rogue Cronus Magnum II or Jolida 801...who can advise me?
My friend has Rogue gear and it is real nice. The Cronus has a phono stage that will save you from adding one to the PL. I can't see you going wrong with the Rogue!

70's Receiver and/or Integrated Amp recommendations
Any of so called big three, Kenwood, Sansui and Pioneer would fit the bill! If you want to up your budget you should look into McIntosh, that company is still in business and will support anything that they made no matter how old it is!
Good Direct Drives
You’re better off getting that new Rega than some 30+ year old clunker from Ebay. Enjoy your new table!
where best to spend $2-3000 upgrade dollars in my system
@bksuperphon2 If the Dynavector is the high output version, this Croft RIAA at a grand would be a nice upgrade! https://www.needledoctor.com/Croft-RIAA-Phono-Preamp

A nice separate tube phono preamp would be a nice addition. There are many nice ones within your budget!
amp/pre amp utilizing two integrateds
I would think that you would want to use the EXT switch so the amp section of the Mac is like a separate power amp. Throw that switch and see if the controls on the Mac stop working. If they do then you can use the Rega as the preamp. What positio...

I presume the EXT will separate the preamp section from the amp section in the Mac! Do you have the owners manual?
Now, I'm confused.
I doubt changing the preamp will give you a wider soundstage.
