To port or not to port
If you think the port is a problem try stuffing it with dish cloths - socks - etc. If you so you will also want to cross the sub over a lot higher.Just another thought.
Tubes 101
B_limo - what tubes are in your amp now? What change would you like to hear? Are your current tubes new or pre owned? If used give them 25 hrs before making a judgement. If new they could take 100 - 200 - 350hrs before they settle down which is wh...
Tubes 101
B limo No all 6550's or KT88's do not carry a specific sonic signature. Example a SED 6550 is very linear sounding where a original Tung Sol 6550 black plate is better in the bass and have a midrange to die for (similar to EL34's but better highs ...
Octave vs Ayon integrateds
As an Octave owner I do not agree with the 6moons review. I started with the V70SE and have upgraded to the V110. With the V110 running the KT120's I find a lot more speed with those tubes than the 6550/KT88/KT90. Personally I don't care for the K...
Best speaker firing across short dimension of room
Bob The Dynaudio MKII/Signature are the second gen C1's and they sound a lot better at lower listening levels than the originals. I upgraded from the originals to the Signatures. As far as the cost of the Raidho D1's you could get a pair Dyn C4 MK...
Best speaker firing across short dimension of room
My room is pretty similar to yours (approx 12' X 26.5') and I have the speakers on the long wall. I just traded my Dyn C1 Sig's which IMO worked best at 6-7' apart with almost no toe in. Great sound stage - imaging and very impressive bass for a 7...
Use Your Own Ears
I learned a while back when I thought I wanted the most accurate/detailed system (because I wanted to hear it if it was there). Turns out I spent more time listening to individual instruments and vocals saying wow that guitar/horn/drum etc sounds ...
Boom boom boom boom
Does it with both channels or just 1? If 1 channel have you tried reversing Ic and/or speaker cables at just the amp end? Had a friend who had distortion at high listening levels but only with 2 songs on one of many hundreds of CD's. Turns out bot...
anyone use KT120's or KT110's tubes in MAC 275 ?
Never heard of a KT110. Did you mean a KT150?FWIW I do not care for the KT120's. Too forward and a bit bright for my taste. I have an Octave V110 which is designed for KT120's.
Shocking 3D sound in 2 channel
I once had a friend come over when I had my Dyn C1 Signatures and he stood in front of them asking me where the center channel speaker was. I had them set up about 6 - 7ft apart with only about a 5 degree toe-in. AND there was/is a 32" tube TV in ...
Do you run a high end power cord on your sub?
I agree with Valinar. I replaced the the stock Rel cable with a Nordost baseline made to Rel spec. The sub bass got a lot tighter and I heard attack and decay I never knew was there.
Nordost Vahalla or Tyr II
I demoed the valhalla in my system about a year before buying the Tyr2 IC's. As I recall the Valhalla did everything right with the most speed (bandwidth). The Tyr2 also does a lot right but has a more 'liquid/warmer' sound which I personally prefer.
New KT150 tubes?
Ayon Audio offers the Orthos XS with KT150 power tubes.http://www.ayonaudiousa.com/us/products/amplifier/kt88-series/orthos-xs/pictures.htmlLooks like they would be great in the winter up north LOL!!
Break In Time for Nordost Norse 2 lines
My Nordost dealer has a Vidar. So I personally have had all my cables burned in on the Vidar. Never heard them get any better. That being said I have heard them get worse. An application of the Eco3 or Eco3X would help tame the highs when they wou...
6550 tubes
My personal favorite is the original Tung Sol 6550 black plate followed by the grey plate. Another nice tube that is tough as nails is the Ei KT90 type2. The SED 6550 is a very linear sounding tube and if you like that tube the KT120 may be for yo...
