Looking for "realistic" speakers
May want to consider some pre owned Dynaudios. 2 that come to mind and for sale here on Agon is the Contour 3.4 and Focus 340. The Focus will be a bit more forward than the Contour 3.4's. That said I used to own the C1's and C1 signatures and foun...
Mini-monitors $5,000 - $10,000
Dynaudio C1 MKII/Signature or the new Raidho X-1
XLR or RCA?
I think this basically sums the difference between rca and xlr and why xlr was developed. Unbalanced Cables Standard Jack Unbalanced Cable. Unbalanced audio cables are cables that have 2 wires that serve as conductors; 1 carries both the signal a...
grills or no grills on your speakers..matters?
Depends on the speakers. When I had the original Dyn C1's they sounded much better with the grills off (soundstage got wider and ever so slightly clearer sounding). Then I upgraded to the C1 Signatures and the grills on or off made very little dif...
KT 150 FOR CJ MV60SE
With any output tube replacement the bias would have to be re-adjusted. Both the KT120 and 150 have a higher heater current draw. Check with CJ to see if the amp can handle it before trying those tubes.Note. Don't expect any more power. I have an ...
Static electricity....again
What antistatic products are out there for our cables??I have Nordost Eco3 and Eco3X. The 3X lasts longer IMO. But you also get 1/2 the amount for the same price (4oz vs 8oz).
A new cable for dynaudio c4 confidence
I heard the ocos cable once about 3 years ago with a Naim system driving C1's. Ocos is more known for long speaker cable runs. Can't say it would be an upgrade but more of a sideways move. My preference for Dyn speakers is the Nordost series2 cabl...
Tubes making fizzing noise, then no volume.
Sounds like a bad tube me but after reading the owners manual there is more to it than swapping out the faulty tube. The tube would have to be re-biased. Best to leave it to the Stax service center.http://www.hifi-im-hinterhof.de/out/media/stax_sr...
Static electricity....again
A central humidifier would be the best way of curing the static problem. That said until you address that problem hold something made of metal like a coin or key before touching the light switch screw. You won't feel it and still discharge yoursel...
Moving to a dynamic speaker from a Electrostatic
You didn't mention price point. But I just moved from the Dynaudio C1 sig to the Raidho D1. The Raidho to me sounds more like an electrostatic speaker but with better dynamics. I never heard the 'C' series but read they are pretty close for a lot ...
Tubes 101
B_limo don't get too ahead of yourself swapping tubes. For any advice to be meaningful you need to know what you want to change the sound to with your current tubes. Looks like the PL5 comes with Gold Lion KT88's for outputs. But what brand are th...
Tubes 101
Jburidan - Per Jim McShane (one of two local tube sellers) the type 3 is a wonderful tube as long as you didn't get the last from the factory. The last ones had mis-aligned heaters which caused the anodes to get cherry red (typically in a few hrs)...
Tubes 101
B limoI have SED 6550 and KT88's. Not sure how close the Svetlana sounds compared to SED. But from what you are describing I would suggest Ei KT90's (type 2 or 3). Besides great extension at both ends it has great mids too not to mention a huge so...
New KT150 tubes?
Andreas Hoffman (owner and designer) from Octave has cleared the KT150 for use in the V110. He did also mention if you have a V110 you will only be able to hear the sonic differences but get no more power out of the KT150 without a circuit re-desi...
Very Specific Ground Loop Question.
I had a similar problem with a Meridian G08 cdp and Bryston B100sst. If I isolated the ground from the G08 (2 to 3 prong adapter) on the power cord the hum went away. Same if I isolated the ground on the Bryston. So I ran the G08 ungrounded (prefe...
