JBL L220A
I've seen them but never heard them, I have heard L200's, L100's, I own a restored pair of L166 Horizons. I think you might do better with L200 or L300 as the L220 has the 5" mid driver loaded with a diffraction plate "horn" which I really wonder ...
Goldmund record collector's standards VS. English
I buy used vinyl on ebay all the time: only when they say 'M' or 'M-' is it usually acceptable to me.. vg++ ect. means you're buying crap with alot of surface noise..I've given up trying to buy used U.K. pressings from the U.K. dealers because the...
Best Kept Speaker Secret?
ditto on the bigger Magnapans.. I've heard these demo'd. a few years ago and they are great.
Vinyl to Digital
I only recently went digital last summer -- bought a rega planet used -- and I'd have to say I'm happier with it than I thought I would be. This CD player is used in my 'second' system which is not my critical listening system but this system keep...
JBL Reissue or Anniversary Speakers??
I think the only JBL reissue was the gold L-100 century.. it cost $5000 I think.. you could do a lot better buying a L65 Jubal or L166 on e-bay and re-coning, rebuilding crossover, cabnets, jacks, etc.
7500 for USED cables? Are they joking?
when the stuff goes over $500 or so I have to wonder too.. I bought used Cardas Golden Cross at about 1/2 price, I would never spend $800-$1000 on an interconnect.. Imagine how many LIVE symphonic events you could attend, with good seats too, for ...
GRASS ANYONE?
Amen to the above suggestions: Dave Grisman, Tony Rice, Darol Anger, and ESPECIALLY the SELDOM SCENE with Mike Auldridge; regarded by many as THE best bluegrass. My father (God rest his soul) loved bluegrass, Flatt & Scruggs, and always waxed ...
Bryston B60 - Is it worth it?
what I have always heard and known about Bryston amps is that they are built to last a LONG time and have a very good warranty... I have heard them a few times but don't remember anything outstanding about the sound...build quality/reliablility is...
Got a melody running around in your head?
"is there gas in the car? yes there's gas in the car.. I think the people down the hall know who we are..""driving like a fool out to Hackensack, drinkin his dinner from a paper sack, he say 'I gotta see a joker and I'll be right back'""Any man le...
Audiophiles - Your Favorite Food??
How about any sandwich made at Mangia on wall st. NYC? or a shopping spree at the cheese dept. in Dean and Deluca on Broadway in soho? But ya ain't really lived till you've had fresh lobster on the wharf in south harbor, arcadia Island, Maine. Usu...
what is the best speaker cable?
Cardas Golden Cross or Golden Reference is my favorite.
Hearing local radio through speakers
I had this problem with my phono section in my active preamp (a forte2.. I know, I know, not a very good preamp)when I moved and there was a radio station transmitter about 1 mi. away.. drove me nuts! finally when I bought a separate Benz PP1 for ...
Which speakers do the hologram thing?
No one here mentions the Spica Angelus or TC-50? These are an inexpensive way to get some good imaging (only if electronics are good).
gem or trash..??
Having lived in Oswego NY and Rochester NY there are quite a few audiophiles in those regions.. Down here in Coweta County Georgia (35 miles south of Atlanta) I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am the only audiophile in the county an...
Triphazers - Use them?
How could these things improve sound as they introduce some semiconducting device or another in the signal path.. plus you have to add another cable connection between...? kind of like adding a tube devise between a cd player and preamp to somehow...
