Audiogon member suggestions for a speaker that sounds good at low volume!!!
Another vote for high efficiency speakers. I have a 2.1 configuration using Omega speakers/sub paired with a Decware amp. Low level listening is a joy with this combination.
Drink of choice for serious listening?
Bourbon .. Angel's Envy, Breckenridge, and Bulleit are a few I like. Tonight it will be Angel's Envy.
Go dual small sub, switch to closed sub or buy a bigger sub?
I'm not so sure there is a definitive answer to your question. My sub is a sealed design with an 8" driver (13' x 18' room) and I have great integration. I've also used ported and I have to say sealed is better for music in my experience.
What are you using as a controller for your audio system?
I have a few options for controlling my system:Mac mini - Amarra Luxe and sQ+, Audirvana +, and HQPlayer for library play. Deezer desktop app for streaming. 2 DACs connected via USB ports, HDMI out to TV. Pixel 2 & HP Chromebook - HQPDcontrol ...
Apple vs Amazon
Amazon has been a bit coy about the mp3 rates they use and have said they vary. I liked the sound quality of their Unlimited tier better than Apple Music (256 AAC). I now use Deezer HiFi, which I like better than Tidal, BTW.
Any Mark Knopfler fans out there?
I'm also a fan going back to Dire Straits. I disliked a few of his solo albums on first listen (The Ragpicker's Dream comes to mind) but ended up liking every one of them later on. Just a couple of days ago I was listening to One Take Radio Sessio...

A terrible loss.
Flaws in this chain?
Listener fatigue. Ever experience it? Excessive jitter was the culprit for me a number of years ago. Since that time I’ve paid close attention to eliminating it as much as possible. Never again experienced listener fatigue in my home. DACs have co...
Flaws in this chain?
But here's a question....why don't device makers, at least high end device makers, include some method for decreasing jitter in the device itself? Most do in fact. And as for the Chromecast. Still 'jittery' but less so than the ATV?Actually, its jit...
Flaws in this chain?
@n80 .. there's nothing at all wrong with your system, but if you want an increase in fidelity you have options. First you should be aware that the ATV re-samples all audio to 16/48 then sends the signal on to your DAC. So, if you want to listen t...
Flaws in this chain?
iFi SPDIF iPurifier is for coaxial not optical which OP runs.Actually, the input is a coax/mini-Toslink combo port. It also outputs both coax and mini-Toslink. Might be a nice inexpensive solution for the OP. I've heard nice improvements using one...
What's the status on Bluesound's Amazon Alexa Integration?
Alexa skills are supposed to arrive "in the coming weeks".
Experiences moving from high-power to lower-power system
After many years with inefficient speakers and the appropriate amps to drive them my own curiosity got the best of me. I’m somewhat budget constrained (lower end of the audiophile totem pole) which is a bit challenging when trying to put together ...
