Do you use a Subwoofer when listening to stereo?
Using subs while running main speakers as they were designed at full range, at least the full range they're capable of, works fine. My 2 RELs simply enhance the sound of my mains and add the necessary low bass, and are easily dialed in without the...
Power Amp
Obviously it's karma...try being a better person and see if your tubes last longer.
why a 75 dollar blue ray smokes all 2k CD players and any turntable???
As a wealthy person with excellent taste, I feel that spending big bucks on everything I like is very important. An example is my new streamer (a "bluesound" something or other), which cost, wait for it, over 500 bucks! What I get for that is grea...
Do you use a Subwoofer when listening to stereo?
Subs make music seem more lifelike and natural, kind of like what tubes seem to do...it takes a little time to set ’em up correctly (I use a "swarm" of 2 RELs...2...albeit a small swarm) but once dialed in you’re likely in a much better place musi...
1st Post Intro & Ramblings
Stereo is driven by the fact that most of us have two ears.
I think I over treated my room. I can't hear anything.
I have a small jet and not only is it hard to keep vinyl records under control on it (especially on take off and landing), it gets really hard to focus on micro-nuance during a flight due to the ambient roar of the engines...if I can get my pilot ...
Never Owned a Tube Amp and Want Advice
My Heresy IIIs (allegedly 99db efficiency) with my recently acquired MQA streamer and higher capability turntable cartridge are clear as a bell using a 12wpc or so little SEP amp...no clue how hard I'm pushing the little amp (it gets loud...someti...
Aegir upgrade to Pass...maybe
I noticed somebody else had the "shut off" issue with the Aegir which alleviated my worries that it was maybe my subs connected to the speaker outputs being an issue, although it's never been an issue with other amps. The subs (RELs) load very hig...
Desire to try tubes
I use a Schiit Freya (original version) with NOS GE 6SN7GTB tubes driving a Dennis Had Inspire Firebottle HO ("high output" at 10 to 17 watts depending on tubes selected) SE amp. Total cost for both was originally around 2 grand (the Had amp was 2...
I'm never going to hear a megaspeaker in a good room am I?
I, as well as many others, like the sound of music in rooms...not all rooms (is a dumpster a room?), but many of the ones I've lived in with furniture, fireplaces, books, windows (Oh NO...WINDOWS!), etc.,  as they can make your hifi rig sound like...
If you could, what live performances would you enjoy re-living?
Thelonious Monk opening for Peter, Paul, and Mary in '64 (I think), Hendrix from 10 feet away in 69, Ravi Shankar '68. Maybe a hundred more...
Amp matching for Klipsch Forte III
Heresy IIIs with 2 REL subs, a Dennis Had Firebottle HO Single ended amp ("high output" depending on power tubes...12 to 17 watts pc maybe), Schiit Freya preamp...magic. Never shouty, can play loud as the clap of doom, astonishing imaging and cohe...
Replace tubes in Black Ice 3502p
I also had a 502p and you could stick nearly any power tube in that thing...I biased my KT 150s at 500mv and they sounded great, as did 6550s, KT120s, and KT88s. Certainly Jolida/Black Ice are still one serious bargain of a well designed tube amp.
Parasound's Hint 6's new volume control provides huge sonic advances?
The 128 step relay switched volume control in my Schiit Freya is great, it preserves an accurate channel balance, and you're never stuck in the "one click more too much, one less not enough" zone. The pleasant clicking sound it makes reminds you t...
Just spoke to an old client of mine..........Avantgarde owner
My Heresy IIIs (and any other Heresy for that matter) have amazing coherency and imaging that I think is due to the fact that the tweeter, mid horn, and woofer are very close together. Very. Due to the horn being so thin it seems...check it out......
