Acoustic treatment question: do you agree with Dennis Foley that $46k to $65k is required? I have an entire building surrounding my listening room with a couple of floors, bedrooms, bathrooms, 2 car garage...worth way more than 65 grand and it sounds great.
The guru on fuses: Fuses will indeed change the sound as without them you simply have none. So the lesson here is use fuses and don't be a fuse refuser...some of my fuses cost more than a dollar and hey...they're worth it!
Best temperature for optimum tube performance Ever look at a "combo" guitar amp? For example, a Fender Twin Reverb (I’ve owned and abused a couple of these) has 4 6L6 power tubes and 6 preamp tubes, all mounted upside down venting heat into the amp (although they’re uncovered...still...), and...
Stereo systems are like Harleys I lived in Redding CT for years and I was 10 minutes from Marcus Dairy in Danbury that had become a Sunday morning mecca for bikers from all over...hundreds of every type of bike (and a couple times a year sponsored "special event" Sundays with ea...
My really dumb tube mistake(s) I agree that arguing the points of SS vs. tubes gets overdone, especially since tubes are simply better. Except maybe for Nelson Pass designs but I'm not sure...no...uh...wait...I'm sure. Tubes are better regardless of how they sound as it's simpl...
A question to the Sound Engineers out there Digital delay has been used for decades to simulate plate or spring or simply room reverb to great effect (no pun intended). Note that James Taylor used a metal shipping container at his elaborate home studio in MA to provide an actual acoustic re...
Sub matching...REL with Klipsh I use 2 older series (Q series, Q108MKII and Q150e) and they blend superbly with my Klipsch Heresy speakers. Note that even with the supposed 99db efficiency of the Klipsch main speakers there is a LOT of headroom left in both subs even with my re...
SVS vs REL and experiences with both: your comments and preferences... I currently use 2 RELs from the "Q" era, a Q108MKII and a Q150e, and both work perfectly in my main hifi rig...can't recommend them more highly, and they cost 200 bucks each (pre-owned) at different times around 5 or so years ago...had the 150e fi...
Schiit amps, freya preamp I was so impressed by the reviews of the Aegir (one in particular that raised the thing to Stereophile Class A) I bought one in late 2019...it shut off when playing at a not so loud level (I don't listen at "actual" loud levels and my speakers are...
Does pin hole in woofer affect sound quality? Matching the pin holes with others evenly spaced could lend some legitimacy to the driver.
Schiit amps, freya preamp I've had an original version Freya for over 3 years and it's an absolutely superb sounding well designed bargain of a preamp, never been noisy, and I've enjoyed rolling various tubes in the thing...the reports of Freya or Freya + issues have been ...
Schiit order issue - anyone receiving shipments? I bought a Bifrost in November and it shipped promptly. Also, in late 2019 (remember back then?) I had some issues with an Aegir (emails answered quickly) and they replaced it immediately free of charge. You simply need to live in the past.
Does pin hole in woofer affect sound quality? A pin hole will help cool the woofer, although a whistling sound may occur.
Bigger drivers = bigger soundstage My previous favorite speakers were Silverline Preludes that had a D’Appolito array with 3.75" woofers and around 90db efficiency...soundstage was superb. Now my 12" woofed Klipsch Heresy pair image beautifully. It’s the design of the speaker that ...
TUBE BIAS, socket to me! I'm biased toward tubes, both preamp and amp (and guitar amps of course) although my power amp is cathode biased needing no adjustment (single ended class A Pentode). I actually enjoyed biasing my previous tube power amp, even with the occasional ... |
