We Can Make Classic Cars Outperform Today's "SuperCars": Why Not Vintage Audio?
Voice of the Theater, Old Klipschorns, or old Wester Electric horns are absolutely inferior to modern pro gear in every way. Some get nostalgia points for home audio, and having owned a pair of classic A7s for years (pro use) I will say those thin...
What's going on with the used audio gear market?
Keynes was a member of the Bloomsbury group...sort of early 20th century hippies including Virginia Woolf, her sister Vanessa Bell, and other writers and artists. Cool. Also, used car prices went up as new cars started having trouble getting parts...
Shakti Stone
Things like this only work if they're expensive as the magic of "expectation bias" is what is happening...enjoy it...revel in it...
Rant against the industry with hopes for discussion on positive change
Yeah man...nobody is into toy trains...rare French pottery...stamp collecting...damn young people! How refreshing...another whining thread about how the audio geek hobby is being neglected...I’ve been into this stuff for many decades and if it’s ...
Looking for good recordings of female vocals I have not yet tried...
Really? No mention of Yoko Ono?
Finally made the transition to a tube preamp!
Finally...seriously...how long were we supposed to wait? Frankly, I'd given up...man...
Single vs Bi-wire Speaker Cable
A couple of years ago simply out of curiosity I made a set of jumpers from the AQ wire I was using...Silverline Preludes (GREAT speakers)...an utter waste of time as the stock gold plated copper jumpers were obviously far superior. I say don't bot...
Is blasphemous Music ok?
Frank Zappa made a song from his quote, "If god made us in his image he must be kinda dumb and a little ugly on the side."
Class D Amplification Announcement
Good news about Class D as I no longer have to suffer through endless sessions thinking my Pass XA-25 sounds so good while getting hot and all Class A...I can just get rid of what I thought were beautiful tubes and amps (including guitar amps) and...
Magico M9 a ton of weight and a million dollar price tag $750,000
In a year or so you should be able to snap these up used for 500 grand.
Hyperacusis. Looking for recommendations
Again, there is no denying the dreaded Fletcher-Munson curve. To combat this you need some sort of EQ, or badly designed speakers with an EQ curve like a big smile.
What is your take on high efficient speakers vs. low efficient speakers?
High efficiency horns need very little energy to get going so they basically make more sound with less driver effort...a good thing. I've heard some great sounding systems with lower efficiency speakers, but for me horns are magic, and I'm hooked ...
Has Anyone Compared the DAC On a Bluesound NODE 3rd Gen to a Separate DAC?
I've got a Bluesound Node 2i from almost 2 years ago and immediately thought its DAC didn't cut it, so I bought a Bifrost 2 and it's a significant improvement (my other DAC is a trusty 2nd generation DacMagic with a no longer available bespoke lar...
Looking for a preamp with XLR connections
My original series Freya is VERY quiet (no discernible hum using NOS GE tubes, and trust me, I hate noisy gear) and Stereophile agreed with that assessment sticking it in its "Class A" recommendations. It tested fine in that review...To say otherw...
Are Expensive Balanced Interconnects Necessary?
I've been using balanced cables in pro audio applications for decades, and when recording the audio for a TV show some years ago I swapped out some pedestrian cables for a set of new "expensive" balanced cables. Immediately heard an improvement (g...
