SPDIF Coax cable recommendation?
I use an AQ silver coated copper sp/dif cable on one DAC, and for my other DAC a solid silver AQ that was expensive but I got it used so it was maybe 60 bucks. Both perform identically and sound great.
Cheapest but good cables….
I also have AQ Type 8 and Rocket 33s (the 33s used for a biwire experiment), both pairs too short for my current hifi setup but both of those sound great. Morrow SP4s are really nice also and mine were moved to my video rig. I use Canare 4S11s for...
Subwoofer boom is too much for me...
Subs ideally should be set at wherever the main speaker’s bass output dies off...otherwise you can lose a portion of the music. I use 2 RELs as that’s all I seem to need, and they’re easily adjusted for level if a recording has too much or too lit...
Those singers you enjoy,....that don't really have a great voice?
I saw Procol Harum live in the early 70s and I still think Gary Brooker had one of the best voices I've ever heard before or since, so, again, it's mystifying he'd be included in this thread.
Can a Bluesound Node's Streamer Be Bypassed and be used as an External Dac?
I think the Node 2i DAC is pretty bad even compared to my trusty old DacMagic (later generation but still an older thing by today's standards...still sounds great for "redbook" CDs and my old Squeezebox Touch now mostly used as a clock), so I boug...
Cheapest but good cables….
Kimber Kable’s newest version of 8PR (their least expensive, incorporating their "varistrand" wire design) cables are amazing...bought a 13.5 foot pair recently and they might be the least expensive speaker cables I’ve ever owned...killer, and gre...
RIP Jeff Beck
I recently read a comment from Jeff Beck that Strats were hard to play, which they sort of are compared to a Les Paul or anything with a shorter scale. He thought a more difficult guitar made you work harder.
Buying Equipment Based on Philosophy???
If a Schiit or Pass labs item I own didn’t sound great I wouldn’t own them. I’ve "un-owned" some gear from some seemingly very hip designers, so really...come on man...

Glenn Gould...he hums along with his piano but I still like him. Billy Gibbons has a great voice by the way, as does Elvis Costello and many others listed here. What's the standard? Opera? A great voice is one that gets the point across mostly in...
Audio gear, sonic quality when you listen in less (or non-) focused ways
I like my gear heap so much that I even enjoy it when it's off.
RIP Jeff Beck
His "Truth" album is still amazing and has licks that run through my head daily over 50 years later. The first time I saw him was Beck, Bogert & Apice's last show ever (Honolulu, with a Les Paul), and later saw him a couple of times during the...
A free tweak revisited
I have dimmers everywhere in my house, especially in my main listening room (the living room I suppose). No issues from dimmer related hum as I use great cables and have always had good hum busting power supplies and good AC conditioning (currentl...
Sad to hear the good people at Timbernation had a fire (and no insurance).
I just sent 10 grand to garebear.
Are There Improvements that Can Be Easily and Quickly Made Without Buying More Stuff?
No. You always need more stuff. And keep it clean by taking it all outside and blasting it with a powerful leaf blower.

So is Audiogon going to be used as "tragedy central" now? My wife was the chair of our region's United Way. We give more to charity than most people earn in a year and I personally have volunteered my services completely free of charge literally h...
