Solid core OFC vs stranded OCC copper I recently bought a pair of the newer version Kimber 8PR (with the "Varistrand" solid core thing) speaker cables and they’re very flexible (unlike myself), present 9 AWG to each speaker input, and sound fabulous. I needed a longer run than my AQ o...
Is there a 300B type amp out there with some WATTS behind it? How did everyone miss the Western Electric 91E integrated? A single ended class A making 20 watts pc into 8 ohms. Expensive, but there ya go...
Bad experience with an electrician "Waiting For the Electrician or Someone Like Him" came out in 1968...man...I'm REALLY getting old...
Audiphile Press: Am I jaded, experienced, or has it declined? There are a lot of reviewed items that are sold direct only and not in any stores so that line is nonsense, and the review mags I read are at least interesting. Are we really so stupid that we take any of it seriously? Fremer, who can be amusing, ...
World's Best Stereo System ?... Yeah man...it's a push-up contest...extreme high end items will (seemingly) always sell regardless of their actual relative value, which is great news for the people marketing the stuff. Luckily in audio there are lots of options for those less in...
Is there anything better than live recordings? "Live in the studio", which many jazz dudes (and some others) do, can sound amazing. Lots of pop music takes months to record, sweating over details and overdubs...some of my fave jazz musicians (or perhaps most of them) like Julian Lage or John S...
Solid core OFC vs stranded OCC copper Stranded cables are actually made up of tiny solid core wires. Morrow audio stuff (which works fine) illustrate that point sort of, although they claim to be "small coated wires" bundled together...their top of the line "anniversary" speakers cabl...
Whats the ultimate goal with your pre amp ? If the preamp is the heart of the system, what's the pancreas?
David Crosby R.I.P. He was a part of musical history in an amazing time and at this point trying to quantify his talent is silly...he was good at everything he did, and went at it hard until his end...well done David!
The problem with absorption panels- it kills the fine details Measure your room...hmm...how about simply listening to your system? Move the speakers...never rely on the opinions of anybody else as your earballs are attached to your head. My speakers are horns and my sweet spot for critical or optimal listen...
Coaxials - Reality vs. Experience? I own some older small KEFs I use as nearfield studio monitors (and have owned some nice largeer KEFs) and they sound great. Also, I don’t think anybody should equate a single driver/whizzer cone with a true coax. I used old Altec coax stuff years...
The problem with absorption panels- it kills the fine details I'm among the "room sound" fans...there are a few of us (more than a few actually) out there who believe that most rooms generally sound fine with their furnishings providing all the damping you need. Plenty of pro reviewers are in that camp, as r...
SPDIF Coax cable recommendation? My post is so relevant I posted the same info twice...I care...
Is there anything better than live recordings? I've mixed hundreds of live shows and recorder many. Just ran the mix to a recorder and forgot about it. Many wound up on live albums so go figure. And they sounded damn good.
SPDIF Coax cable recommendation? I have 2 AQs for sp/dif into different DACs...one is silver coated copper and the other is solid silver (got it cheap used). They are identical in performance and work perfectly. |
