Why is solid state more popular when tubes are better? Many reference systems use tubes, and my personal reference system uses both tubes and transistors to produce music that to my ears is more realistic than otherwise, and my house is filled with musical instruments for "reference." There simply is ...
Why is solid state more popular when tubes are better? Tubes look cool...they just do. Also note that you can roll different tubes whenever you feel like changing the taste of things...you gonna roll transistors in in that SS amp? No, you're not. Here's a thing about what old Ralph says about his clas...
Heresy IV vs Zu DW6/Soul mk2 I've had Heresy IIIs (Capitol Records version) for a few years and love the things. I tried a pair of IVs (figuring they would be better) and didn't like them at all although they're really well built...some upper mid frequency anomaly drove me nu...
A Black Box to Solve Everything Who wants their hifi rig to push a 300B to distortion? Hmmm...Pass is into "tube like" sound as illustrated by his XA-25. I have one and it sounds great but not particularly like tubes to my ears...I switch between that amp and a Dennis Had SEP. ...
Why is solid state more popular when tubes are better? Atmasphere manufactures Class D amps to so he's invested in the technology (I haven't heard his Class D mono amps but I imagine they sound fine) so there's that, and although he claims they measure like tube amps, I'm not sold. I switch from an al...
Is simpler better? Simple can be bettered by "better." There's no magic formula, and a simple setup is still actually a lot of parts in a box...is that source really simple or simply less parts? A preamp can ad substance or not depending on its design and how the u...
Digital front end upgrade options I use a Node for streaming into a great DAC as I thought the Node DAC didn't sound very good at all. My DAC for that is a Schiit Bifrost 2/64 (upgraded).
Tube Preamp, uses 6sn7/6sl7. With or Without Phono; With or Without Remote Volume, Freya +...in its own category as nobody makes anything like it, a "class A" preamp that with good tubes (I use NOS GEs) really shines for a bargain price.
Can you pick out what is what? So that's a yes.
Can you pick out what is what? Do you buy food based on what other people say it tastes like?
What's the point of reviewing? Moot...man...Statements of the Obvious warning: Good reviewers make good reading regardless of what you might think about what's being reviewed, and can lead you to trying something yourself maybe. Or not. I get most of my reading from book review...
Why do speakers improve with more powerful amps? Roger from Rogers High Fidelity had an interesting comment somewhere about amps operating in their "sweet spot" of sort of a median power delivery, and noted as an example that very powerful amps into efficient speakers don't get the amp into its ...
Monitors Some studios use consumer based speakers for mixing, and certainly mastering labs do. Speakers like Yamaha NS10s sounded dreadful to my ears but became a standard used by a lot of studios...how anybody could stand these things remains a mystery to...
Final? ARC Chapter... New ARC stuff has seemed a little too expensive to me for years so, meh...I do like the fact that they're around anyway as it's sort of comforting. Fremer had a recent youtube ARC facility tour thing that was interesting, especially the part where...
Can a system sound too Holographic? Yeah man...you sit up and yell, "what the hell are these musicians doing IN MY HOUSE," and then you calm down and realize hey...things just got a little too holographic. |
