Advice on upgrade Using ear drops and the warm water bulb to remove earwax is utterly safe and works really well. It just does...I've removed lost car keys, maps of Cuba...
Advice on upgrade Modest tweak: Ear wax removal...from your ears (if there's ear wax anyplace else...well...that's just creepy).
Starting a thread and then disappearing An interesting yet utterly pointless thread. Also, have you heard Wavetouch speakers? They cure dandruff and eliminate dust particles from the air. A must hear...
vintage versus modern speakers I really like the sound of many of my 60's and early 70's LPs like Jeff Beck's "Truth" and Tull's "Stand up"...some of this stuff sounds really cool on modern gear...Donovan's stuff with John Bonham et al...kick ass.
vintage versus modern speakers JBL L100s have a frequency curve that looks like a smile...all highs and lows. I liked them back in the day but modern stuff is often designed with a much more even (accurate) frequency response overall, and usually far less coloration.
Should I switch to a preamp with balanced outputs I've used balanced mic cables in pro audio for centuries but for hifi isn't it a gear specific thing? I read reviews where the reviewer finds the balanced output (or input) sounds better sometimes, but others show no difference. Long cables...bala...
Anything as " fast" as SPECTRAL gear? Fast, in this case, means how fast you bank account empties once you buy a Spectral item.
ARC Ref 110 with KT 150 tubes My Jolida 502p about which I often wax enthusiastic (note to English majors...I really almost never say shit like that), albeit way less expensive that the hallowed ARC brand, sounds fabulous with 150s, and I am free of the spineless "blessed by A...
A whole new meaning to "live" music I restored an Eden bass cab after it had been left unattended in a store room...mice had eaten the wire insulation and removed all of the fibre padding. An easy fix but man...gross.
Describe ube sound vs solid state I bought Gold Lion 12AX7 reissues from "thetubestore" with matched and balanced sections for a fraction of whatever dealers want for exotica like the Mullard 10ms, and they are simply great sounding 12AX7s for my tastes anyway...I like NOS Mullard...
Describe ube sound vs solid state The best thing about Pass amps is the meter, and I've found they sound fine mostly...I like the "first watt" philosophy as really the tonal qualities are all that matter and it's up to you to decide how much horsepower you need. Pass is one of tho...
Describe ube sound vs solid state This thread seems to ignore the fact that tube amps are more fun. There is no question that good SS amps can, and do, sound fine or often great, but comparisons aside, you generally don't "Transistor Roll" to effect some tonal change because you f...
Describe ube sound vs solid state Mapman gets it...I think it's an interesting part of hifi dialog that great tube amps are often described as having "SS like grip on the bass," and SS amps will be described as having "tube-like warmth and harmonic content" or some such thing. I p...
Tuning Rel G1 The reason I stuck a "chicken head" knob on the level pot of my REL is simply because it makes it easier to see and feel the knob for adjustment. Unless you use some sort of digital nanny circuit DSP filter, you should want to adjust this thing wh...
ARC Galileo GSPre vs ARC Reference 5 SE ? .... Here's what you can do...buy a pile of factory matched 150s from the cheapest Ebay seller with a good rating (I bought a quad for 260 bucks or so), take your old tubes out of your amp, stick the 150s into the recently vacated tube sockets, adjust ... |
