Manley Jumbo Shrimp upgrade
The "positive results" mentioned have been somewhat skewed by the relentless commercial promotion of SR fuses by a few very motivated posters, who by themselves make up a large percentage of the "testimony" in the primary SR fuse thread. When I po...
New KT150 tubes?
The KT150 is a fantastic tube, but after a year they seemed less so, and I perceived that they were putting some strain on my beloved Jolida 502p (ear to speaker I could hear the Jolida softly saying, "help me…help me…"). Back in April I put in a ...
How hard it is to replace the rca input on the shindo amplifier?
Learning to solder is a gateway to shrink wrap…take this as a warning.
Norah Jones
I bet the recording was done utilizing state-of-the-art gear by experienced pro recording engineers, so something must have gone wrong in the mixing or mastering, or a wave of ear wax removal among all of the participants caused an unnatural sensi...
Manley Jumbo Shrimp upgrade
Fuse directionality in AC circuits is technically irrelevant, and perceived changes in sound from reversing a fuse are likely imagined. Some think changing the direction meant you cleaned the fuse contacts and are hearing the results of that, but ...
Manley Jumbo Shrimp upgrade
Fuses are not part of the active, tone producing circuits in any amp, and are simply designed to allow current to pass through them and fail immediately if necessary to save the circuits from frying. Although SR fuses have a cult following with as...
Bi-Amp v. Uneven Speaker Cable Runs (Pass Labs B&W 802D)
My cable to the nearer speaker does one coil loop (both speaker cables are 10 feet) under the rack and it makes absolutely zero difference tonally. In a spiraled multi solid core (8) bundle of wire there is inherent noise rejection which works as ...
Anyone listen to Pandora lately?
Used to be if you paid for Pandora and eliminated the commercials it also benefitted from higher resolution (seems true, and worth the 5 cents a day). I think it sounds fine on my rig, although I prefer CDs and vinyl of course…I use it in my car a...
Norah Jones
This album is "dark" sounding (the tone, not the content particularly). I like it but really don't get why it was mastered or mixed to this tonal feel. Almost bought the LP instead and now I wonder if it has the same lack of crisp highs as the CD....
Question for sub woofer users
I'm a REL fan of course, but I do question their claim that the High Level input reproduces the sound of the amp. I certainly uses the signal of the amp but since it then goes through its own amp this claim seems like hype…understandable, but hype...
The right footing for a turntable
Run a pillar of granite up from your home foundation through a hole in your floor to place the turntable on, and make sure the table is located in another room away from any sound source or people (don't want people breathing on the table). Place ...
Tube Amp vs Solid State Amp HELP
Oh, so now we're talking about the "sound" of things? Tube amps make reproduced music sound more accurate in my experience, possibly due to the linearity and even order harmonic content inherint in tube performance, or the ability of tubes to burn...
The right footing for a turntable
My table per the Linn manual (he also wrote "Hamilton") sits on a stable, light, lowish table, and sounds tremendous. Maple schmaple...
Is it safe to A/B 2 different speakers using my int. amp's balance so I can compare?
Read my post and do what I said…ignore the other posts (although they're all BRILLIANT). I'll wait here.  OK then…or…put on one speaker in mono and sit in front of it for HOURS…take a break, and then listen to the other speaker for hours then do t...
Is it safe to A/B 2 different speakers using my int. amp's balance so I can compare?
Listen to one pair for a while (hours, over a few days, which ever you can get away with), and then do the same with the other pair…this is basically what pro reviewers do. If need be, take notes…one pair will likely make you feel better than the ...
