Will a sub woofer mess up my tone and phase aligned speakers
Don't be afraid…you simply move the sub around until it sounds good to you. Not rocket surgery, not difficult unless you want it to be. Also, music is not a test tone, so adjust the damn thing from time to time.
A new Question: Moving Magnet Cartridge To Compliment My Rock Collection
My local "audio salon" cartridge expert dude recommended an inexpensive Sumiko Pearl a few years ago as an interim solution until I could decide which more precious cartridge I wanted to eventually try (Linn Akito arm). I had been listening to an ...
Need a preamp with tone controls!
A friend owns one of the gigantic Vincent integrateds (SV 236) which Fremer reviewed some years ago, and it's a beast of 150 watts per side with tubes in the preamp stage (seen through a little window)…cute. Sounds great, and I've seen these liste...
Need a preamp with tone controls!
Vincent makes preamps with tone controls. Luxman also.
Conrad Johnson Officially Transfers ownership
I do own pro audio speakers with Italian drivers.
Conrad Johnson Officially Transfers ownership
Who wants a stiff driver? Nobody, that's who. "Jeeves, bring the Bentley around and by god man, quit drinking!"
16 bit is good enough.....
Sadly, I tend to really enjoy my Redbook CDs AND vinyl…I know it's wrong, but then are my acoustic guitars really "high rez" when I play them? I lack the Steve Bannon-esque ability to lean over so my face points to the sound hole when I'm playing,...
Lifters ForGetting Cables Off The Floor, Worth It Or Snake Oil
If you're actually worried about seismic frequencies worming their way into your rig, you possibly need to increase your meds or get another hobby (Balsa wood ship modeling? Needle point? Live concert sound mixing?). I know, to geoffkait my silly ...
Sonic qualities of SET output tubes?
Blindjim…there’s an interesting Youtube video of Had talking about his amps with a little tour of his shop, and a several hundred page discussion of his "post Cary Audio" builds on Audioaficianado.org. He sells his stuff exclusively on Ebay (or yo...
What sounds best: Vinyl or CDs
Wax cylinders man…these convey uncompressed musicality in ways that other media cannot. And player piano rolls, although often these require using your legs to pump the pedals on the player piano which may be unique in High End audio. I often add ...
Sonic qualities of SET output tubes?
My HO (Dennis Had "Inspire" Fire Bottle SEP HO, or High Output) has seen various tubes in the recent few months as it uses only 4 of them (great for rolling), and my most recent new issue Tung Sol 6SN7GTB rates only a "meh" although it does look c...
power
If your speakers compress at all within normal listening levels (i.e. other than the ear damage zone) you have crappy speakers and/or a crappy amp. Also the thing with amps sounding good is the overall design which should produce a great sounding ...
2 Channel Subwoofer connection
I use 2 RELs with home assembled Canare cables and Neutric Speakon plugs…used in mono by joining the wires in appropriately large AQ silver spades (main speakers are on bananas). I had to lift the ground on the larger REL (Q150e) but this rig is u...
Lesson Learned
I started using an SEP lower watt amp and assumed a pair of efficient (or at least more efficient than what I’ve been using) speakers were needed. I bought the new, highly regarded but somewhat under reviewed new speakers but after a while noticed...
Looking for a musical subwoofer @ $500>
RELs are brilliantly designed, sound great, and use your main amp for the signal (the "High Level" input...so they arguably sound like your amp).  I own 2 from the same era…a Q150e 10" 150 watt, and a Q108 MK2 100 watt. Both were bought used for a...
