shrink wrap film residue- how to remove I use Novus (various strengths from scratch removal to simple polish) stuff after a master guitar repair dude turned me on to it. The "number one" (weakest in terms of any grit) of the four strengths is amazing, and I use it for everything from cl...
Interconnect Length Balanced cables are all I would ever use for anything over maybe 2 meters or so…and that's a stretch. It seems like balanced phono cables are a great idea as phono cables can use all the help they can get. My old Linn had a crappy tonearm cable th...
For tube sound, which is more important: preamp or power amp? The Had amp I bought has no specs…it's specless, except for the 12 watt per side and Single Ended Pentode claims in the Ebay description. Specless.
Genalex GL GZ-34 Rectifier...Did I just get a bad one? Five months seems OK…now I'm devoting my bitcoin windfall fortune to cornering the vintage rectifier market…ah…the power...
@inna Tell me your speakers and I'll tell you who you are Auratone Super Sound Cubes.
Genalex GL GZ-34 Rectifier...Did I just get a bad one? Five months seems Whenever I'm with your wife she says the same damn thing to me…so I get that. However, MY wife says things like, "When are you going to sell those extra speakers you don't want?," and "what do you need THAT for again?" I also doubt the Mullard wil...
Has anyone made the jump to $uper High end and were disappointed? The entire premise of the OP is sort of funny…and I doubt the act of "jumping to Super High End" is what anybody actually does, except for a tiny minority of wealthy sales pressure victims. Tiny. Reading magazine reviews without a basis in the rea...
Schiit taking orders (as of Dec 23) on Freya preamp My Freya arrived a few days ago and the supplied tubes sounded fine with no bothersome hum, which is a good thing. I have a lot of "hum busting" in my rig with bespoke filtering power supplies and quiet cables as I’m a seriously noise averse liste...
Horn based loudspeakers why the controversy? Regarding horn use and abuse, I use a pair of Mackie 10" 2 way P.A. passive (passive aggressive) speakers (with a beefy Mackie sub since they’re good to maybe 60hz) daily for my mindless but important electric guitar noodling in my mindless noodli...
Genalex GL GZ-34 Rectifier...Did I just get a bad one? Five months seems Great. Now Ralph has me looking for a genuine old Mullard rectifier. That's just great. Thanks man.
Has anyone made the jump to $uper High end and were disappointed? Yeah man: "It doesn’t matter which combination you will make, the sound and stage will be incomplete. All people will feel and experience a much lower level in emotion and intensity during listening to music." Ya know…I miss you Bo…nobody, and I m...
Looking to get into tubes on the cheap I obtained a Schiit Freya recently and it sounds real good in the tube mode, so there's that. It sounds real good in the other modes also, but those modes make me think the tubes are embarrassed to be there doing nothing.
My rant; we don't know what we don't know I've managed to get great sound in my listening spaces without reading Jim Smith's book, because my ears still work (I still get hired to mix live shows). I am one of the "over 50" people who the OP claims might have valid opinions, and can state ...
Horn based loudspeakers why the controversy? I'm with mapman…I've mostly ignored Klipsch for decades, although in the 80s there was a KG4 or something that sounded pretty nice to me (I went with Boston A60IIs…I have a re-coned pair in my TV rig). I recently trekked over to a NH dealer to lis...
For tube sound, which is more important: preamp or power amp? My now "resting" preamp is a Kavent S33, which is a rebadged (not sure why) Vincent SA-91…it even says SA-91 on the circuit board. These are fully balanced aluminum clad heavy monsters with a couple of serious transformers mounted in a separate sh... |
